CAREER OPPORTUNITY As a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer specialising in Mechanical Design Research and Development (R&D), you will play a pivotal role in the critical phases of designing, developing, and improving mechanical systems, components, and technologies. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES Design and develop innovative unique and complex mechanical systems and components to enhance world-first technology. Lead and collaborate on in-house design reviews provide engineering thought leadership and engage the drafting team to create concept drawings. Utilise finite element analysis and simulations to ensure designs meet required specifications. Build prototypes of mechanical system assemblies and equipment to propose improvements to advanced mechanical systems. Conduct rigorous testing in controlled environments and analyse test data to enhance designs and ensure compliance with industry standards. Research, Review and Select appropriate materials for mechanical applications, considering factors such as corrosion resistance, strength, and durability in extreme weather conditions. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate mechanical components into complete control systems, ensuring seamless and efficient functionality. Stay updated and aware of emerging market and technology trends like mechanical, robotic, drone, and ROV technologies and research trends to contribute to the company's innovation efforts. Identify and evaluate opportunities for technological advancements and cost efficiencies. Create and maintain detailed engineering documentation, including design specifications, technical reports, and computer-aided design and drafting drawings. Engage multidisciplinary teams, including electrical engineers, software developers, and other members of the engineering team, to deliver comprehensive mechanical system solutions. ESSENTIAL AND DESIRABLE SKILLS EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS Qualified in Mechanical Engineering and ideally Master's degree would be advantageous. Holding a professional engineering license (PE) would be advantageous. Minimum 10 years of mechanical design engineering experience ideally in a combination of Engineering, Production, Research & Development & Innovation Proven experience in complex mechanical design, preferably in R&D and Innovation environments. Sound competency computer-aided design (CAD) software, Solidworks would be preferred or similar. Exceptional analytical mindset, problem-solving skills and think outside the box. This role would suit someone who has a passion and hobby for Drones, Robotics or ROV with an understanding of the equipment and technologies. We are ideally looking for a team player, mentor, coach and someone who wants to make a difference in the environment and sustainability. Ability to work in an agile and dynamic and work environment. It would be highly desirable if you came from an industry and company like the Royal Navy, Shipping, Maritime or Marine Technologies or associated industries.
