WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

At Journi, a creative tech company, we’re building the #1 most downloaded printing app in the world that allows customers to create beautiful photo books and other print products without effort. Using AI technology, we automatically create personalized designs based on the content our users want to print. 
We’re looking for an enthusiastic Software Engineering Manager who is passionate about building great products, ​loves being part of a motivated team of internationals and thrives in a laid-back start-up culture without bureaucracy.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Manage our growing engineering team of 20+ engineers in various disciplines including mobile, web, backend and ML development

  • Lead by example and make sure the team applies our general work principles and culture.

  • Ensure great communication between and within cross-disciplinary teams in a growing team. Further develop rituals and processes in the team to further foster that. 

  • Help your team achieve their goals, through creating a framework of responsibility, learning, support and individual development

  • Coach, mentor, and further develop your direct reports through regular 1:1s, continuous feedback, personal goals & performance reviews.

  • Ensure the development team sustainably delivers a product our users love, and work closely with developers and product managers to refine our agile process and other workflows

  • Build and develop the composition of the engineering team: hire new team members, develop new roles and plan capacity

  • Work full time (38,5h/week) as part of a team consisting of experienced people

  • Communicate effectively across multiple teams, identify and communicate improvements, give and actively receive feedback

  • Enrich our Journi team with your knowledge

YOUR BAG OF TRICKS

  • Excellent leadership skills and 5+ years experience managing teams of 15+ engineers.

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to foster great teamwork within and across cross-disciplinary teams. Experience in developing and implementing effective communication rituals and processes.

  • Experience in developing and growing an engineering team, and maintaining it as an important, valuable and well integrated part of the company.

  • Experience in keeping and further increasing the motivation and efficiency of the engineering team at a high level.

  • You are permitted to work in the EU/Austria (OR have a degree in Computer Science which is required to apply for an Austrian work permit)

  • You are able to relocate to / based in Vienna - the world’s most liveable city

NICE TO HAVE

  • Experience with parts of our tech stack can help: Kotlin/Swift for mobile development, Scala/JVM for backend, Typescript/NextJS for web, different AWS services (S3, RDS, Elasticache, DynamoDB)
