We are representing a well-established international construction and engineering contractor delivering large-scale projects across the data centre, logistics, advanced manufacturing, pharmaceutical, and industrial sectors throughout Europe.
With a strong pipeline of work and a commitment to responsible employment practices, the business is looking to appoint a Social Compliance Officer to support the delivery of high standards of workforce compliance and ethical labour practices on a major project in Linz, Austria.
This is an excellent opportunity to join a growing compliance function and play a key role in ensuring the project operates in line with Austrian legislation, client requirements, and company policies.
The Role
As Social Compliance Officer, you will work closely with project teams, subcontractors, labour providers, and internal stakeholders to monitor workforce compliance and promote ethical working practices across site.
The role combines compliance administration with stakeholder engagement, making it ideal for someone looking to build a long-term career within social compliance, ESG, workforce welfare, or ethical supply chain management.
You will help ensure all labour providers and subcontractors meet both legal and contractual obligations while supporting audits, inspections, reporting, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the implementation and ongoing development of workforce and social compliance procedures across the project.
- Review workforce documentation including employment contracts, right-to-work records, timesheets, payroll documentation, and posted worker records.
- Ensure subcontractors and labour agencies remain compliant with Austrian employment legislation and project standards.
- Monitor workforce welfare and identify potential compliance or ethical labour risks.
- Assist with internal and external audits, inspections, and compliance assessments.
- Investigate compliance issues and help coordinate corrective actions where required.
- Deliver or assist with workforce inductions, toolbox talks, and awareness sessions covering ethical labour practices and modern slavery.
- Maintain accurate compliance records and prepare reports for project leadership and client stakeholders.
- Act as a key point of contact for workforce compliance queries across the project.
- Collaborate with HR, Procurement, HSE, and Project Management teams to embed best practice throughout the supply chain.
About You
- Degree or equivalent experience in Compliance, Human Resources, Business, Law, Social Sciences, or a related field.
- Previous experience within social compliance, labour compliance, workforce welfare, HR compliance, ESG, or ethical sourcing.
- Good understanding of employment legislation and workforce compliance processes.
- Knowledge of Austrian labour law, A1 documentation, and posted worker regulations would be highly advantageous.
- Experience supporting audits, inspections, or compliance reviews.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills with the confidence to engage stakeholders at all levels.
- Fluent English is essential; German or another European language would be beneficial.
- Well organised, detail-oriented, and proactive in identifying and resolving compliance issues.
