Athletics West is the State Sporting Association governing the delivery of the sport across junior and senior pathways in Western Australia. Athletics West has a state-wide network of affiliated Centres and Clubs that offer junior, senior and/or recreational programs, in addition to athletics programs, activations and activities in regions without a club/centre presence.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Inclusion Coordinator is responsible for leading Athletics West’s Access Athletics Program (the Program), set to launch in September 2024. This role will be responsible for the operational coordination of the Program over a 3-year period, to build sport capacity and increase participation in athletics for people with a disability.

This role will also work closely in conjunction with the Engagement Coordinator to support the development of our state-wide network of Clubs/Centres to develop and/or enhance inclusivity and provide practical tools to support their administration.

A close working relationship with members, Clubs/Centres, State and Local Government and key community service partners will be essential to the successful achievements of the position’s objectives.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Increase sport capacity to create and maintain inclusive, accessible, safe and welcoming environments for people with a disability
  • Increase awareness and participation in athletics for people with a disability
  • In alignment with the Program’s key objectives, support the delivery and ongoing review of athletics as a product, events and competitions, and the development of all stakeholders throughout athletics
  • Promote the purpose and values of Athletics West programs and initiatives within the Athletics and greater WA communities
  • Liaise with, coordinate and support working groups with organisations and key stakeholders as required

KEY DUTIES

  • Deliver the Athletics West Access Athletics Program’s planned programs and activities to achieve set outcomes
  • Manage the Program’s budget in accordance with the plan and resources available
  • Work with the Club/Centre network to create individualised plans to build more inclusive environments specific to their needs and stage of development
  • Implement initiatives to develop coaches and officials to enable more inclusive practices in existing sport structures
  • Coordinate the delivery of term-based programs at multiple venues, ensuring consideration for new participants and alleviating barriers to participation
  • Maintain stakeholder relationships and liaisons with Athletics Australia and Little Athletics Australia, Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries, WA Institute of Sport and regional Academies of Sport, and other partners as required
  • Assist with the creation, development and implementation of the relevant Athletics West policies, procedures and programs, in conjunction with the Chief Operating Officer
  • Identify gaps within the servicing and programs offering, including coaching, officiating, competition, events and programs pathways, addressing these through engagement and delivery of innovative and inclusive programs and partnerships
  • Communicate effectively with members, employees, government authorities, representative bodies, all other stakeholders and the public
  • Assure the Organisation and its mission, program, products and services are consistently presented in a strong, positive image to the public and relevant stakeholders
  • Represent the Organisation as required through attendance and submissions at events, conferences and meetings
  • As directed by the Chief Operating Officer or the CEO, any other duties within the Employees capabilities which is reasonable to expect the employee to undertake

SELECTION CRITERIA

  • Experience in the sport or a not-for-profit industry
  • High level communication skills and ability to elicit cooperation from and work with a diverse group of people/stakeholders
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to effectively plan and prioritize work and maximize the use of internal and external resources to achieve outcomes
  • Experience in managing and administrating programs, or activities within an relevant environment, including managing budgets
  • Excellent competencies in information technology
  • Preparedness to be flexible in respect to work hours and intrastate/interstate travel
  • A current “C” class WA driver’s license
  • Current valid work with children check
  • National police clearance
