The Opportunity:

The Principal Engineer provides technical leadership and direction to the allocated Line of Business to develop and maintain technical capabilities and processes, ensure availability of technically competent personnel, and provide overall technical assurance.

The Principal Engineer influences the technical strategy and executes the tactical direction across the Line of Business including engineering policy and procedures, technical work force planning, professionalisation of the engineering and technical disciplines.

The Principal Engineer will directly report to the Chief Engineer GS APAC on technical assurance matters and has a secondary responsibility of reporting to the management of the allocated Line of Business on business enabling technical capability matters.

Responsibilities:

The key responsibilities of the role will include, but is not limited to:

  • Provides leadership and technical direction

  • Work closely with program/project engineering leads and their staff.

  • Develops and maintains engineering processes and procedures as part of the broader GS APAC Quality system

  • Manages the delivery of the Technical Assurance functions, including quality assurance, audit, analysis, corrective action, reporting and lessons learnt.

  • Provides leadership and assistance to programs and projects on an as required basis including technical advice and direction and sourcing internal or external expertise as required.

  • Provides direction and guidance with developing and maintaining a framework for technical learning and development.

  • Assist engineers and technical personnel with professional development and achieving qualifications.

  • Work closely with other Lines of Business and People and Culture in developing the careers of technical personnel including training and professionalisation needs, and potential roles.

  • Actively supports the integration of technical capabilities with other GS APAC Lines of Business.

  • Attend the relevant project status reviews.

As the ideal candidate you will bring:

Essential:

  • Minimum 15 yearsâ experience

  • Proven engineering leadership and management experience in complex programs

  • Software and/or Information Technology practical experience

  • Undergraduate four-year degree in engineering

  • Registered professional engineer in an Australian jurisdiction

  • Chartered engineering status is highly desirable

  • Must be eligible to obtain an Australian government security clearance
