At TU Wien, the Research Unit Wireless Communication of the Institute of Telecommunications is offering a 30-hours/week position as a Project Assistant (prae-doc). The position is initially limited to 18 months, with the possibility of extension up to a total of 4 years. Expected start: May 2025.
Wireless networks are at the heart of modern life. They support critical infrastructure like power grids and everyday services such as healthcare, education, or smart cities. As we lean on these networks more and more, it is vital to ensure they can handle disruptions quickly and efficiently. This project focuses on the Radio Access Network (RAN), a key part of the network that connects your mobile device to the internet. To improve the performance and reliability of the RAN, this research investigates resource allocation. Specifically, deciding how the network resources are distributed over time to ensure resilient service.
Responsibilities:- Conduct research on anomaly detection and prediction, as well as rapid response to anomalies in the RAN.
- Use tools like numerical optimization, game theory and machine learning to design adaptive resource allocation strategies for the RAN.
- Simulate communication systems using programming tools such as Python or Matlab.
- Publish and present your research findings in renowned international venues using English language.
- Contribute to teaching and supervision of master and bachelor students.
- Participate in national and international scientific events.
- Assist with organizational and administrative tasks.
- You hold a Master of Science (M.Sc.) or diploma degree in Electrical Engineering, Information Technology or related fields like Computer Science, Mathematics or Physics.
- You have a strong interest in academic research and teaching.
- You possess problem-solving skills and scientific curiosity.
- You are used to an independent working style.
- You are comfortable working in a team.
- You have very good communication skills.

Entry level salary is determined by the pay grade B1 of the Austrian collective agreement for university staff.
