About the role

As a Retail Operations Manager at Choice Discounts, you will be responsible for assisting and overseeing stores in the Sunshine Coast and North Brisbane area.

Inspire, lead, coach, develop, and motivate Store Managers and their teams to achieve operational and financial goals. There will be a strong focus on providing support to Store Managers and their teams. Lead company culture and values positively. This role works for the store's needs and future successes.

The role is targeted at adding value to the business in all aspects of daily operations and is fully people-focused.

What you'll be doing

  1. Adding value to the business and achieving financial goals
  2. Achievement of sales and ensuring growth
  3. Inspiring sales ideas through merchandising, stock ordering, and product placement to suit each individual store.
  4. Training in techniques used to increase sales across the store team.
  5. Being involved with seasonal setup decisions.
  6. Show work ethic by working side by side with the store's team on the floor, whether filling stock or recovering.
  7. Controlling costs within stores - wages and roster productivity, shrinkage.

Continually looking for improvement

  1. Develop ways of improving productivity and increasing efficiencies.
  2. Streamline existing processes within individual stores to ensure productivity.
  3. Identify with stores on what they are struggling with and find a solution.
  4. Undertake initiatives to improve the standard of store operations and roll out to other stores by sharing ideas and feedback.

Be a keen problem solver

  1. Stores need to feel that they can come to you with problems.
  2. Resolve problems quickly and efficiently.
  3. Train Managers in handling problems that arise by giving them the necessary tools.
  4. Listen with understanding.

Actively involved in the decision-making process to shape the company's long-term strategy.

  4. Find solutions to problems.

Providing support to Store Managers and achieving operational goals

Coordinate and oversee the day-to-day store operations and retrain where necessary, including:

  1. Customer complaint satisfaction.
  2. Staff training including product knowledge.
  3. Store housekeeping standards.
  4. Store control and how to achieve it.
  5. Setting store routines to ensure compliance with procedures.
  6. Store visits to identify & resolve any pertinent issues.
  7. Pass on all information acquired as soon as possible (e.g., deliveries, stock splits).
  8. Ensure store layout standards are achieved in line with the Choice Go to Customer Category strategy.
  9. Ensure in-store merchandising execution is in line with the Choice Go to Customer Category strategy.
  10. Ensure in-store execution of the promotion plans (products, price labels, position in store in line with the promotional calendar).
  11. Work closely with Store Managers to plan and execute the seasonal planograms analyzing seasonal buying/sales data.
  12. Supervise recruitment, selection & induction of all new store staff, with particular attention to Full-time/Part-time and School-based traineeship program opportunities.
  13. Manage stock transfers between stores as required (overstocks/splits).
  14. Communicate with the stores and arrange shop requisites in a timely manner.
  15. Regular communication and reporting with the business support team.
  16. Plan out an efficient store visit schedule.
  17. Ensure all Choice controls, policies, procedures, and guidelines are adhered to.
  18. Ensure all Choice OH&S standards are adhered to.

Key Performance Indicators:

  1. Achievement of sales budget.
  2. Achievement of Labour budget.
  3. Succession plan of the stores, retention of productive staff.
  4. Individual store growth.

What we're looking for

  1. Minimum of 5 years' experience in a retail management role.
  2. Previous experience in Discount, Department store, or Supermarkets is essential.
  3. Strong merchandising skills.
  4. Strong leadership and people management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate a team.
  5. Proficient in computer use.
  6. Exceptional problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  7. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  8. Flexible and adaptable to changing business needs.
  9. Flexibility to work across the whole week as we are a 7-day trader.
  10. Flexibility to work from different sites across the area.
  11. Strong work ethics.
  12. Flexibility to assist in other areas if necessary.
