PROJECT SCIENTIST (F/M/X)

_Applied/Experimental Sound Research Laboratory (ÆSR Lab): _Academic coordination and conceptual design

to be filled as soon as possible.

As part of the three-year externally funded project _Applied/Experimental Sound Research Laboratory (ÆSR Lab)_, the PhA

is establishing a tripartite mobile and modular sound research laboratory at the interface of art and science, together

with the University of Applied Arts (Zentrum Fokus Forschung) and the University of Music and Performing Arts

Vienna (Artistic Research Center & Institute for Composition, Electroacoustics and Tonmeister Training).

As a state-of-the-art technical facility, the sound research laboratory will promote interdisciplinary research and

artistic design and advance the development and testing of new technologies and methods. In line with its specific

expertise, the PhA is responsible for the creation and running of the _ÆSR - field recording & digitization/restoration _
- laboratory_. A joint lending system that is easily accessible to the public as well as various events and other forms of

outreach will serve as a link between the participating institutions and as an interface to the broader public. The PhA

is looking for a committed new member of staff to take on scholarly, coordinating and organisational activities as part

of the _ÆSR _Lab _project_.

Your tasks:

  • Project coordination within the PhA and with project partners
  • Design and organisation of workshops and other events
  • Developing and implementing creative scholarly initiatives on the topic of field research
- _Science communication_: communicating project content and processes to the public

  • Involvement in the diverse activities of the PhA; networking within the OeAW, nationally & internationally

Your profile:

  • Completed studies (MA, Mag., Dipl.) in musicology with a focus on ethnomusicology or in cultural and
social anthropology with a focus on music/sound/_sensory anthropology_

  • Extensive field research experience; knowledge of discourses of _reflexive ethnography_
  • Experience in the design and organisation of events for different target groups
  • Knowledge about artistic and music scenes in Vienna; desirable: active participation in these scenes and
familiarity with approaches of _artistic research_

  • Interest in historical sound carriers and playback devices; affinity for archival practices and/or the concept of
the archive; openness to experimentation

  • Very good knowledge of English and German
  • Strong team orientation and communication skills; ability to work independently
