Tasks

We are seeking a dedicated student (m/w/d) specializing in electrical, mechanical, or process engineering, or related fields. This paid Master's thesis opportunity is in partnership with the Institute of Automation and Control at Graz University of Technology.

Currently, we are focusing on a project to enhance the sustainability of drying agricultural products by creating a mobile drying system powered by 100% renewable energy sources. The system integrates a sorption storage unit, a solar thermal collector, and heat recovery mechanisms. The goal of the Master's thesis is to develop and validate an advanced operational strategy for a prototype, ensuring precise moisture control of the goods being dried and optimizing system efficiency through intelligent component integration.

Your responsibilities

  • Build and validate a simulation model for the drying system with support from BEST
  • Devise model-based control strategies for optimal system operation in terms of efficiency and resource management
  • Evaluate the new control strategies using the simulation model
  • Possibly implement and validate the controls on the prototype
Requirements

Your qualifications

  • Background in electrical, mechanical, or process engineering, or a related field
  • Preferably some knowledge in control or process engineering
  • Proficiency in MATLAB / Simulink programming
  • Enrolled in an Austrian university with EU visa or residence permit
