The University of Vienna (20 faculties and centres, 184 fields of study, approx members of staff, about students) seeks to fill the position of a University assistant (prae doc) as soon as possible, limited to 4 years at the Research Group Data Mining and Machine Learning at the Faculty of Computer Science under the supervision of Univ.

The Faculty of Computer Science at the University of Vienna has world-leading researchers in computer science who conduct both basic and applied research.

As a member of the Data Mining team, you will work on exciting data mining projects and have the opportunity to take on responsibility at an early stage, publish the results at leading international conferences and exchange ideas with international and interdisciplinary cooperation partners.


Your future tasks:

Participation in research, teaching and administration:

  • Participation in research projects / research studies
  • Participation in publications / academic articles / presentations
  • Participation in teaching and independent teaching of courses as defined by the collective agreement
  • Supervision of students
  • Involvement in the organisation of meetings, conferences, symposiums
  • Involvement in the department administration as well as in teaching and research administration
The research should focus on data mining, e.g. clustering, representation learning, causality detection and graph mining.

This is part of your personality:

  • Master in Computer Science or equivalent qualification with a strong focus on Computer Science with excellent marks.
  • Very good German and English language skills.
  • Very good mathematical understanding
  • Very good programming skills, mastery of at least two of the following programming languages: Java, C++, C#, Python
  • Strong ability to work in teams
  • Perseverance and ability to make things done
  • High motivation to publish at the toplevel conferences

Desirable qualifications are

  • Experience in one or more of the following fields: Clustering, representation learning, deep learning
  • Teaching experience / experience of working with elearning
  • Knowledge of university processes and structures
  • Experience abroad
  • Basic experience in research methods and academic writing

The basic salary of EUR 3578,80 (on a full-time basis) increases if we can credit professional experience.

Duration of contract:

The employment duration is 4 years.

Initially limited to 1.5 years, the employment relationship is automatically extended to
4 years if the employer does not terminate it within the first 12 months by submitting a non-extension declaration.
