Key Responsibilities and Major Duties:


The MSM/L Manager acts with the highest standards of integrity in a dynamic manner leading a high performing field-based team and providing input to medical planning that support the safe and effective use of our medicines.


Leading and Managing Field Medical (FM) Team:

  • Provides coaching or mentors all direct reports
  • Has a strong focus on field coaching activities with teams (covisits, coaching visits, local events)
  • Promotes team spirit and accountability, leading a high performing team
  • Ensures the communication of accurate scientific and medical knowledge
  • Responsible, with manager's advice, for the execution of MSM/L powerful conversation plans
  • Supports development experiences that prepare individuals for broader responsibilities
  • Develops and fosters relationships with other internal/external organizations and industry peers. Utilizes those relationships to enhance Field Medical plans and FM performance against those plans
  • Creates an environment of open and candid feedback with a willingness to identify and remove barriers
  • Supports CHAT initiatives and leverages cluster possibilities.
  • Regularly discusses strategy and execution with the respective functional head

Training:

  • Responsible for the delivery of the MSM/L training program, with the adequate worldwide/regional/local medical team support
  • Ensures new staff attendance at worldwide/regional/local (as appropriate) new hire onboarding programs, and that MSM/Ls have access to continuous learning and development opportunities
  • In agreement with the DAS/DAH/Medical Director, drives development and implementation of a training plan which continuously monitors and updates knowledge of DA, patient treatment trends, product data and scientific activities to the MSM Team

Objective settings and Performance Management:

  • Develop individual objectives, conduct annual and midterm performance reviews with associated development plan for each team member
  • Ensures appropriate translation of disease area and product medical education objectives and TL needs into specific MSM/L activity plans
  • Responsible to perform firsthand assessments of the MSM/L interactions with TLs and analyzes skills/knowledge gaps among MSM/Ls through frequent covisit observations and provide performance feedback and coaching to MSM/MSLs;
  • Analyzes performance measurement metrics of the MSM/L Team and works jointly with WWFM Capability and/or the regional/local Medical Operations team on the development of measures and skillbuilding training
  • Encourages & recognizes strong performers and deals with low performers appropriately

Resource Allocation & Retention:

  • Makes appropriate resource allocation decisions ensuring the right balance of field and officebased activities of MSM/Ls
  • Develops a proactive approach to recruitment and creates initiatives to ensure the retention of strong performers
Medical Planning/Execution

  • Is a member of the Local Medical Team & Country Brand Team
  • Provides input to country medical plans and define a Field Medical plan for each disease area & product
  • Builds and maintains strong communication links between WW/regional/local teams and Medical/Marketing/Access/Commercial teams
  • Communicates with crossfunctional partners to ensure appropriate coordination between sales, field access and MSM/L activities related to TLs and key payors (including account management)
  • Provides clear direction and is accountable for overall execution of the Field Medical plans, according to overall medical and disease/ product strategy
  • Ensures that the DAH has the appropriate information to define the appropriate MSM/L activity levels for the given markets and to ensure TL educational needs and communication preferences are met
Additional Activities

Clinical Trial/ Site Identification & Support:

  • Supports appropriate screening process to identify potential investigators for BMS initiated clinical trials
  • Ensures that the MSM/Ls collaborate with HOM, RCO & GCO team to evaluate requests, assess capacity and allocate resources for approved clinical support activities as appropriate
  • Ensures the submission process of investigators' proposals for clinical trials is completed in accordance with Company Policies, and applicable laws, regulations and ethical standards
