Organization Setting and Reporting

The job is located in the Convention Support Section (CSS), Corruption and Economic Crime Branch (CEB), Division for Treaty Affairs (DTA), United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), in Vienna.

The incumbent will report directly to the Chief of the Section and receive guidance from the Chief of the Branch.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct analysis of information received from States parties on the implementation of the Convention against Corruption, focusing on legal issues.
  • Provide specialized substantive, legal, and technical expertise for country reviews, thematic reports, and regional addenda.
  • Offer support and expertise for policy coordination in anti-corruption, including drafting reports, preparing evaluations, and conducting research.
  • Provide legal and substantive inputs on matters regarding the Convention's ratification and implementation.
  • Participate in conference servicing and expert meetings on anti-corruption topics.
  • Support the Global Operational Network of Anti-Corruption Law Enforcement Authorities.
  • Collaborate with field offices and other relevant entities on anti-corruption issues.
  • Analyze data to identify trends and provide insights for decision-making.
  • Perform other relevant duties as needed.

Competencies:

Has knowledge of theories and approaches relevant to economic crime and corruption. Familiar with legislative aspects related to preventing and combating corruption. Understands the work of the United Nations in crime prevention and criminal justice.

Shows professionalism, research skills, and ability to provide legal advisory services. Demonstrates a sense of responsibility for gender perspectives and equal participation.

Teamwork:

Works collaboratively with colleagues to achieve organizational goals. Values input from others and supports team decisions.

Planning & Organizing:

Develops clear goals, identifies priorities, and adjusts plans as needed. Efficiently uses time and resources.

Education:

Requires an advanced university degree in law with a specialization in international law or criminal law.

Work Experience:

Minimum of five years of relevant professional experience in crime prevention and criminal justice, with a focus on anti-corruption. Experience at the international level is required.

Languages:

Proficiency in English is required. Knowledge of French is an advantage.

Assessment:

Evaluation of qualified candidates may involve an assessment exercise and a competency-based interview.

Special Notice:

This position is temporary until 31 December 2024. Candidates from the United Nations Secretariat will be considered for temporary assignment.
