Die Österreichische Nationalbibliothek versteht sich als dienstleistungsorientiertes Informations- und Forschungszentrum, als Gedächtnisinstitution des Landes und als vielfältiges Bildungs- und Kulturzentrum. Zu Ihren primären Aufgaben zählen die Vermittlung, Sammlung, Bewahrung, Dokumentation, Erforschung und Ausstellung ihrer Bestände sowie der Lesebetrieb.

Die Österreichische Nationalbibliothek hat bereits mehr als 620.000 Bücher und rund 1.600 Zeitungstitel vom 16. Jahrhundert bis in die 1950er Jahre mit rund 230 Millionen Seiten digitalisiert. Mittels Machine Learning sollen große Datenkorpora analysiert, angereichert und für die Öffentlichkeit und Forschung zugängig gemacht werden.

Für die Hauptabteilung Digitale Bibliothek/Abteilung Forschung und Datenservices, suchen wir zum ehestmöglichen Eintritt, befristet bis 31.03.2026, eine n engagierte n Software-Entwickler in mit Schwerpunkt Machine Learning für 20 Stunden/Woche.

Diese Position ist im Center für Softwareentwicklung eingebunden, der zentralen Stelle für alle Softwareentwicklungsleistungen an der Österreichischen Nationalbibliothek.


Aufgaben
  • Planung und Durchführung von Projekten mit Schwerpunkt Machine Learning in großen Datenbeständen (z.B. Bildähnlichkeitssuche, Klassifikation)
  • Erarbeitung von Anforderungen für Machine Learning-Projekte mit Unterstützung der internen Fachexpert innen
  • Datenanalyse und Qualitätskontrolle der erzeugten Daten
  • Mitarbeit am Aufbau einer Software-Infrastruktur für den Bereich Machine Learning inkl. Monitoring, Wartung des GPU-Clusters und Dokumentation
  • Mitarbeit bei der Planung und Implementierung von OCR-Workflows

Profil
  • Einschlägige Berufserfahrung und idealerweise abgeschlossene IT-Ausbildung (z.B.: FH, Universität)
  • Erfahrung im Bereich Machine Learning und deren Frameworks (z.B. Tensorflow, Torch, Keras) sowie im Umgang mit Python und Jupyter Notebooks
  • Kenntnisse von einigen der folgenden Technologien bzw. Konzepten von Vorteil: Git, Docker, CI/CD, Programmierschnittstellen (z.B. RESTful), Datenbanken, Shell Scripting, OCR-Datenformate (z.B. ALTO, hOCR)
  • Idealerweise Vorerfahrung im Bereich Digital Humanities
  • Lösungsorientierte und eigenverantwortliche Arbeitsweise sowie ausgeprägte Teamfähigkeit und hohe Kommunikationskompetenz
  • Sehr gute Deutsch- und Englischkenntnisse

Wir bieten

Das Jahresbruttogehalt für diese Position auf Basis 20h/Woche liegt bei mindestens EUR 26.180,- mit der Bereitschaft zur Überzahlung, abhängig von Qualifikation und Berufserfahrung.
