The Department of Nuclear Sciences and Applications implements the IAEA's Major Programme 2, which focuses on Nuclear Techniques for Development and Environmental Protection through programmes on food and agriculture, human health, water resources, environment, and radiation technologies. The Division of Human Health aims to enhance Member States' capacity to address health needs using nuclear techniques.

Main Purpose:

As a team leader reporting to the Director of the Division of Human Health, the Section Head (Applied Radiation Biology and Radiotherapy) manages IAEA projects in Human Health, specifically focusing on radiation oncology and cancer treatment.

Role:

The Section Head leads a team responsible for developing and implementing activities in the Applied Radiation Biology and Radiotherapy Section, advising the Director on programmatic issues, coordinating technical support, and facilitating cooperation with other organizations.

Functions / Key Results Expected:

  • Plan, develop, and implement subprogrammes on radiation oncology and cancer treatment.
  • Initiate research projects and provide technical guidance to improve radiation therapy.
  • Coordinate technical support to research projects and technical cooperation projects.
  • Manage coordinated technical inputs to the PACT program.
  • Organize scientific meetings, prepare scientific programmes, and represent the IAEA at international events.

Qualifications, Experience and Language skills:

  • Advanced university degree in Medicine with specialization in radiation oncology.
  • Minimum 10 years' experience, including work in a cancer center or department.
  • Experience in staff supervision, leadership, budgeting scientific projects, and clinical activities.
  • Affinity with clinical radiobiology and medical oncology.
  • Recognized scientific status with international publications and presentations.
  • Fluency in English; knowledge of other IAEA languages is a plus.
