The Business Unit

Creates solutions for customers which enable smarter, safer, more productive and sustainable factories, production lines and warehouse operations. Its pneumatic and electric motion systems help machine builders and end users around the world automate and optimise manufacturing and warehousing processes.

Australia and New Zealand

An important part of APAC region, the business situation is one of sustaining success and the challenge is to continue this model and drive sustainable growth for the long term for ANZ sub-region.

Role Overview

Seeking a dynamic and experienced Managing Director to lead the ANZ region to new heights of success. The MD will be responsible for overseeing all operations, strategic planning, and business development initiatives to ensure the site's continued growth and profitability.

Ensure the delivery of the 5-year strategic plan. Lead the site Senior Leadership team by using their knowledge and experience to implement the necessary practices and processes to achieve increased performance and long-term profitable growth. This position is responsible for creating vision and strategy for the site by inspiring and motivating the workforce to achieve short-term and long-term business targets. Responsible for developing and promoting a strong culture of inclusion and diversity in the workplace, supporting Company’s Health and Safety and Environmental strategy, and playing their part in the Company’s ESG agenda.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leadership: Provide strong, visionary leadership to the site team, fostering a culture of trust, excellence, accountability, collaboration, and innovation.
  • Strategic Planning: Develop & implement strategic plans and initiatives to achieve short-term & long-term goals, aligned with company's overall objectives. Develop and implement a 5-year strategic plan to deliver desired market growth.
  • Operational Management: Oversee day-to-day operations of the site, ensuring efficiency, quality, and compliance with company standards and regulatory requirements. Introduce best in class lean manufacturing principles that will drive cost and operational performance improvements.
  • Financial Management: Manage the site's budget, financial performance, and resources effectively to maximize profitability and optimize operational efficiency. Full management of the companies P&L. Direct organisation to ensure all financial controls are in place and monthly, quarterly & annual reporting is timely & accurate.
  • Health and Safety: Establish and maintain a safety culture that leads to zero harm in the workplace.
  • Business Development: Identify opportunities for business growth, expansion, and diversification, and develop strategies to capitalize on them. Monitor market / industry knowledge in regards to trends, competitors and product / technical developments. Create new approaches to deal successfully with changes and challenges in the market dynamics and customer relationships.
  • Stakeholder Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including clients, partners, suppliers, and regulatory bodies.
  • Talent Management: Recruit, develop, and retain top talent, providing mentorship, guidance, and opportunities for career advancement. Assess the levels and capability of the workforce on a regular basis and implement programmes to develop employees, fill future capability gaps and improve productivity.
  • Culture Development: Create a work environment where employees take pride in customer satisfaction, business performance and inclusion and engagement.
  • Performance Monitoring: Implement performance metrics and KPIs to monitor and evaluate the site's performance, identifying areas for improvement and implementing corrective actions as needed. Drive the implementation and management of core processes (e.g. Internal Financial Controls, Risk, Lean, Talent).
  • Risk Management: Identify potential risks and challenges to the site's success and develop proactive strategies to mitigate them.
  • Compliance: Ensure compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards, maintaining the highest standards of integrity and ethical conduct.

Critical Competencies for Success

  • Proven experience in a senior leadership role as a MD or GM, with a track record of success in driving business growth and operational excellence.
  • Highly commercial and results driven with skills in managing both core process and bringing a creative and entrepreneurial approach. Full understanding and proven ability to enhance revenue, margins and operating profit to meet near term and long-term goals.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate teams towards common goals.
  • Strong financial acumen and experience in budgeting, financial analysis, and resource allocation.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Knowledge of relevant regulatory requirements and compliance standards is desirable.
  • Proven ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and effectively manage change and ambiguity.
  • A strong growth mindset - proven to deliver results not just operate at the strategic or theoretical level.
  • Experience in a metrics focused environment including weekly and monthly quarterly reporting and analysis.
  • The ability to adapt fast to changing circumstances (competition, new technology, economic etc).
  • Desired to have worked in key industrial sectors of factory automation, rail, mining, semi-con or energy sectors.
  • Proven record of success in business development, sales and marketing, operations, engineering, project management and supply chain, ideally in an engineered business.
  • Proven track record of significant change leadership and of delivering results and improved performance combined with the ability to inspire and manage through a strong influencing style.
  • High degree of integrity, always prepared to do the right thing.
