DPV Health is expanding the Pathway to Good Health service for vulnerable children in partnership with the Department of Health and DFFH Child Protection in Local Government Areas of Northern Metropolitan Melbourne as part of the statewide rollout of Targeted Health Supports for Children in Care with clinic locations in Broadmeadows and Mill Park, as well as community in-reach and outreach.

The incumbent will use their clinical expertise to conduct comprehensive psychological assessments for vulnerable children and young people living in Out of Home Care, as part of a multidisciplinary team approach to improve health and wellbeing outcomes. The successful candidate will promote positive mental health and apply a collaborative and trauma informed approach to engage with members of a clients care team to meet health goals.

Working as part of the Pathway to Good Health team, and reporting to the Clinical Lead, you will:

  • Bring a sound understanding of the impacts of childhood trauma and maltreatment and the social determinants of health and a demonstrated ability to provide trauma informed, trauma responsive care.
  • Have a positive regard for, and passion for improving outcomes for vulnerable children and young people who have experienced adversity and complex trauma.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and expertise in child development and attachment theory and an ability to respond to behaviours of concern and utilise neuro-affirming practice.
  • Demonstrate psychological assessment competencies, including cognitive, behavioural and adaptive function assessment skills using of a range of relevant screening and assessment tools, including WPPSI-IV, WISC-V, WIAT-III, ASEBA, SDQ, and Vineland-3, and other youth risk assessment tools.
  • Demonstrate an ability to build professional therapeutic relationships in a trauma sensitive, culturally safe manner and promote client engagement.
  • Provide psychoeducation, brief intervention, motivational interviewing, behavioural and socioemotional support strategies to clients and their caregivers to promote optimal mental health using a strengths-based approach.
  • Promote positive parenting/caregiving practices and build parenting/caregiving capacity. Promote and/or deliver evidence-based parenting programs.
  • Work collaboratively within a supportive multidisciplinary team and form strong professional partnerships with a child/ young person’s care team, including education providers, caregivers, Child Protection Practitioners and other sector agencies through participation in care team meetings and case conferences.

To be successful in this role you will bring:

  • Registration as a Psychologist and fulfill the requirements of the Psychology Board of Australia and Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) including abiding by their code of ethics and CPD requirements.
  • Qualifications and/or Knowledge or Experience in assessment of vulnerable children and adolescents with socioemotional difficulties developmental delays/disabilities.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years post graduate experience working with children and young people.

  • Successful candidates will be required to undergo a National Police Check, International Police Check (if applicable), NDIS clearance and hold a valid WWCC.
  • Full driver license and travel between sites required.
