Lessons Management is responsible for the collection, capture, analysis, dissemination and applying learning experiences from incidents, events, exercises and programs that originate from internal and external reviews and reports. The team is also responsible for departmental monitoring and reporting on actions taken to address insights and recommendations that have originated from the analysis of all learnings.

Reporting to the Director, Organisational Capability, Doctrine and Lessons you will be responsible for leading and managing a team that provides input for the review of QFES capability by providing valuable insights into how capability has performed through the analysis of internal and external lessons. You will be responsible for leading and supporting learnings across the department through the sharing of case studies and operational review reports developed from the internal lesson's management process.

About us

As a department our purpose is to help the community to prevent, prepare for, respond to and recover from the impact of fire and emergency events.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) is the primary provider of fire, rescue and emergency management programs and services throughout Queensland. The department encompasses the Queensland Fire and Rescue, Rural Fire Service Queensland, and also supports other volunteer groups providing emergency response to Queenslanders.

Purpose of the role

* Knowledge and experience in lessons management, principles and processes.
* Knowledge and understanding of Queensland Disaster Management Arrangements.

Your key accountabilities

Your part in the ongoing success of our department, in supporting frontline services will see you responsible for a variety of work, including, but not limited to:
* Provide high level strategic leadership and direction for the ongoing management of lessons, including the facilitation of lessons activities and presentation of lessons outcomes, recommendations for business improvement to the capture, analysis and reporting of lessons.
* Build, consult and maintain effective working relationships with key internal and external stakeholders to support efficient processes for the successful initiation of action plans to address recommendations, insights and the development of learning.
* Lead, manage and coordinate analysis activities, including the articulation of lessons debrief and review requirements, and work with key stakeholders through workshops and meetings to help support improvement through lessons.
* Provide strategic advice to senior management regarding best practice lessons management processes and recommendations for improvement through lessons.
* Manage and conduct analysis activities on all external and internal reviews and reports and provide progress reporting on the status of recommendations and projects of work.
* Prepare, review and provide complex briefing documents, submissions, reports and correspondence on related issues and initiatives, in accordance with departmental requirements.
* Provide ongoing coaching, mentoring and support to teams to promote best practice lessons management processes and procedures.
* Maintain knowledge of lessons management processes, tools, templates and current best practice to drive and improve organisational behaviour through lessons.
