Tax Accountant

Your business
The Tax Accountant role sits within the CFO Division - Finance Team.
Along with Finance, the CFO Division is comprised of Treasury, Planning and Reporting, Legal & Company Secretariat, Business Controls and Regulatory Capital and Risk.
We have an opportunity for a Tax Accountant to join the finance team.

This is a full-time position based in our Brisbane CBD head office.
Reporting to the Tax Manager, you play a critical role in the Finance team and are a key influencer across the division

Your team
The Finance Team is responsible for delivering financial reporting, tax, operational accounting, treasury back office and middle office and systems accounting functions for the Great Southern Bank group. The team is accountable for ensuring the delivery, optimisation and continuous improvement of the finance function.

Your impact and contribution
As the Tax Accountant, you will contribute to the ongoing compliance with our regulatory and tax risk management framework. You will contribute to ongoing enhancement activities and continuous improvement initiatives relating to the finance function.

Your responsibilities
• Supporting the Tax Manager with managing investor tax requirements, including FATCA/CRS, Annual Income Investment Reporting and Quarterly Tax File Number Reporting.
• Minimise the extent of Transaction Tax risks in line with Great Southern Bank's Risk Management Framework including active engagement with operational areas and structured Transaction Tax compliance monitoring and control testing.
• Supporting the Tax Manager in respect of monthly tax calculations, including income tax, GST, fringe benefits tax, and other compliance issues, including working with operational personal and external Tax Consultants to investigate issues.
• Supporting the Tax Manager with managing requirements of tax reviews, audits and other investigations.
• Contribute to continuous process improvement initiatives to mitigate process risk and ensure compliance.
• Establish strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
• Keep abreast with tax reporting requirements and recommend strategies to implement changes as necessary.

Your experience
• Minimum 3 years' experience working in a corporate tax role or having an exposure to tax within a medium to large, chartered accountant firm.
• Experience in Australian financial services preferable.
• Knowledge of corporate tax reporting requirements including income tax, fringe benefits tax and GST.
• Awareness and understanding of income tax, fringe benefits tax and GST legislation.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel and Word skills.

Your qualifications
• Commerce / Business degree with a major in Accounting.
• Member of a Professional accounting/tax association (desirable) or working towards same.
