State Director

vor 1 Monat

Perth, Österreich The Greens (WA) Vollzeit

The Greens (WA) are founded upon four pillars: ecological sustainability, grassroots democracy, social justice and peace and non-violence. Over the last thirty years, The Greens have become the third force in Australian politics, with Greens elected at every level of Government across the country.

The party is now hiring a State Director, responsible for managing a staff team and implementing our election campaign goals

Our staff team enjoys flexible working hours and work-from-home arrangements; professional development opportunities; menstrual, miscarriage, and menopause leave; 12% superannuation, and pay increases in line with CPI.

The Greens (WA) are an equal opportunity employer, and we strongly encourage diverse applicants and those with unique life experience to apply. We encourage you to submit an application if you feel your experience is transferable, even if you don’t meet all selection criteria.

About the Role

The State Director is the most senior staff member of the Greens (WA). The role provides support and advice for the party’s decision making bodies, and will ensure the implementation of party decisions and strategic goals. Collaboration with volunteers, staff, MPs, candidates and the local community is key to this role.

The State Director must work effectively with people from diverse backgrounds — this includes in the management of staff and volunteers, and in the promotion of a positive and welcoming party culture. This role manages the day-to-day operations of the party and its resources in accordance with legal obligations, agreed strategies and policies, with some support from other staff and volunteers.

To succeed in this role, you’ll need to be a skilled communicator and campaign strategist, with the ability to problem solve, lead a team, and work effectively within the party’s structures. The party’s primary decision making process is consensus-based, so you must be skilled at working consultatively, and facilitating effective, collaborative work at many levels.

This role will involve some evening and weekend work — so effective time-management, delegation and feedback skills are essential. This job is best suited to someone passionate about people power, and building successful grassroots campaigns

Classification and salary: Manager 1.1 to Manager 1.3, depending on experience ($103,733.97 to $113,032.93pa + super).

Agreement: Greens (WA) Inc Staff Agreement 2020 or as replaced (Industrial Agreement). Remuneration will be in accordance with the Industrial Agreement. This role is eligible to be covered by the Australian Services Union.

Work type: Permanent-Full Time (1.0FTE)

Start Date: By negotiation, with possibility of immediate start.

Probation Period: Six months

Reporting Relationships

This position reports to The Greens (WA) Representative Council, and is managed by the appointed Line Manager of the Council’s Administration Working Group.

Positions Under Direct Supervision:

The role involves supervision of a team of staff (currently four people) with up to three additional staff members joining by July/ August 2024. There will be some short-term staff engaged in the weeks leading up to the State and Federal elections.

The role also involves direct supervision of volunteers at various times.

Staff employed are a mixture of full time and part time employees.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with Representatives’ Council and other party committees to set and implement campaign and organisational goals, and report on agreed outcomes. Other key committees include the Administration Working Group, Election Campaign Committee, National Working Group and campaign issue groups.

  • Advise, manage and lead as required on election campaign strategy, working alongside staff and volunteer teams to achieve our election goals.

  • Oversee the appointment and management of office staff and volunteers, and ensure a safe workplace for staff and volunteers.

  • Oversee engagement with the broader community through traditional media, social media and community campaign tactics.
  • Encourage communication and collaboration between the The Greens (WA), Parliamentary Greens Offices and other member bodies of the Australian Greens nationally.

  • Provide oversight of the operations and election budgets, including by developing budgets and fundraising initiatives in consultation with the party.

  • Promote the recruitment and retention of volunteers, and encourage a welcoming party culture.

  • Perform risk assessment and crisis management, and ensure that the party complies with all relevant legislative and regulatory obligations.

  • Work effectively with diverse staff and volunteers.
