Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance (BHSI) has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Senior Casualty claims professional. The role reports to the Manager, Casualty Claims and is preferably based in our Sydney office, and will be a great opportunity for an experienced Claims professional to expand their scope of experience in a customer facing role and in a highly collaborative team environment dedicated to providing best in class claims service.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Managing third party injury and property damage claims across the Casualty business including Public and Products Liability, Excess and Umbrella and specialised products.
  • Providing high level customer service and technical claims management with a proactive approach to achieving strong results for our customers.
  • Investigating and managing claims which includes close cooperation with the insured and broker, determination of coverage, liability exposure, reserve adequacy and identification of risk management opportunities whilst working towards timely claims resolution.
  • Ability to supplement in-house claims handling expertise with appropriate engagement of loss adjusters and legal providers as required.
  • Providing professional input into the delivery of BHSI’s plans, goals and objectives.
  • Build strong relationships and contribute to the business by work closely with Casualty underwriters and actuaries at an individual claim and portfolio level including pre and post loss engagement in support of the Casualty business.
  • Occasional travel to customer and/or broker meetings, mediations, conferences, and other industry events.

 Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years claims experience handling casualty claims. Experience in legal practice will also be considered.
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications.
  • A high level of professionalism and personal responsibility.
  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work both autonomously and in a team environment.
