As a Mainframe Software Architect in the banking sector, you’ll play a critical role in shaping the technology landscape. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design, develop, and maintain Mainframe applications and solutions.

Your expertise will drive innovation, ensuring scalability, security, and performance for our Mainframe systems.

Responsibilities

Architectural Design:

  • Define and document Mainframe architecture, including system components, interfaces, and integration points.
  • Evaluate existing systems and propose enhancements or modernization strategies.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to align architectural decisions with business goals.

Technical Leadership

  • Provide technical guidance to development teams, ensuring adherence to architectural standards.
  • Mentor junior architects and engineers.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends and emerging technologies.

Solution Implementation

  • Lead the implementation of Mainframe solutions, considering factors like performance, security, and maintainability.
  • Collaborate with development teams during coding and testing phases.
  • Troubleshoot complex issues and provide solutions.

Risk Management

  • Identify and mitigate architectural risks.
  • Ensure compliance with security and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
  • Proven experience as a Mainframe Software Architect, ideally within the banking or financial services sector.
  • Strong knowledge of Mainframe technologies (e.g., COBOL, CICS, DB2, JCL).

Preferred Skills

  • 10+ years relevant IT Mainframe industry experience with at least three years in a highly technical role.
  • 5+ years’ experience in z/OS systems programming, installing, and supporting mainframe operating systems, IBM, and ISV mainframe products.
  • Expert knowledge within the mainframe environment.
  • Strong analysis, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic team environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience with Hogan systems (if applicable).
  • Familiarity with modernization approaches (e.g., migration to cloud-based solutions).
