Location of work: SA

Working arrangements: The work is to be performed at the offices of Services Australia in the respective city. Some remote working arrangements may be considered on a case to case basis.

Length of contract: Until 30 September 2025 (~15 months)

Contract extensions: 2x 12 months

Security clearance: Must have Baseline Clearance

Rates: $130 - $160 per hour (inc. super)


The Enterprise Architecture Branch looking for candidates who are presented against one (or more) of the following fields - response needs to indicate which area they are interested in based on the criteria. Candidates may be assessed for more than one area if they progress through the process but initially the candidate should outline their preferred field/s of expertise.

  • Infrastructure Architecture
  • Cybersecurity Architecture
  • Data Network Architecture
  • Cloud Architecture

Key duties may include, but are not limited to some or all of the following:

  • Documentation & Presentation Skills to Executives and Peers. Able to summarise technological topologies and complex concepts in a way that can be presented to nontechnical stakeholders.
  • Technical Solution Architecture: Delivery of strategic architectural artifacts within agreed timeframes and associated governance.
  • Organisational Strategy: Drive strategic direction on process improvements related to ICT change process, vulnerability management, and self-service/cloud infrastructure.
  • Organisational Navigation: Proactively seeking and engaging organisational SMEs when direction is unclear or not forthcoming.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: delivery and presentation of artifacts to both technical staff and non-technical executive leadership.
  • Stakeholder Management: understanding the audience and providing solutions that both drive the desired outcomes while maintaining the integrity of the strategic direction.
  • Technical Subject Matter Expert (SME) Advice: Providing guidance and direction for solutions one or more of the of the subject matter areas which may include Architectural Framework, Capabilities, Strategies, Patterns, High Level Architecture, Reference Architectures, Roadmaps, Solution Architecture, Architectural Assessments/Compliance and Costings.

Essential Criteria

  1. Demonstrated extensive experience and ability to undertake:
    • Gap analysis, industry research,
    • Corporate investigation to develop relevant ICT architecture artefacts including a minimum of four (4) of the following:
    o Reference architectures
    o Architecture patterns
    o Strategies
    o Capabilities
    o Roadmaps
    o Architectural solutions aligned to endorsed strategies to meet tight deliverable timeframes.


Desirable Criteria

  1. Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills of a higher order, showing evidence of indepth technical knowledge and capability to handle stakeholder engagement and management.
  2. Ability to develop, present and discuss work items within a critical peer group forum and ability to present in various governance forums.
  3. 5+ years’ experience as an architect (in field of choice below) in one or more of the following subject matter areas preferably in a large and complex environment:
    a. Infrastructure Architecture
    Understanding technological implications of infrastructure capabilities, such as:
    o Network Infrastructure and Architecture
    o Midrange & Mainframe, Appliances, Backup (Physical & Virtual appliances e.g. Networker)
    o Compute and storage
    o Virtualisation Architecture/Technology (OpenStack, OpenShift, VMWare, Bare Metal, PowerVM, IBM Z/VM)
    b. Cyber Security Architecture

    Understanding technological implications of infrastructure capabilities, such as:
    o Vulnerability Management
    o Multi-Cloud security
    o Zero Trust
    o Governmental Cybersecurity Frameworks (Information Security Manual ISM, Essential 8, Protective Security Policy Framework (PSPF))
    c. Data Network Architecture

    Understanding technological implications of infrastructure capabilities, such as:
    o Distributed Networks (Software Defined Networks)
    o Network Segmentation
    o IOT architecture
    o Network Security
    d. Cloud Architecture

    Understanding technological implications of infrastructure capabilities, such as:
    o Cloud Native Architecture
    o Azure Cloud Architecture
    o AWS Cloud Architecture
    o Multi Cloud
    o Cloud Migrations
    o Provisioning and Automation
