Karara Mining Limited (KML) is a joint venture between Gindalbie Metals Limited and AnSteel, one of the largest iron ore producers and steel makers in China. Located 200km south-east of Geraldton, Western Australia, Karara is the largest mining operation and the first major magnetite mine in the Mid-West. It produces a premium, high-grade concentrate product for export to steelmakers.
With an expected mine life of 30+ years, it will underpin a long-term iron ore business and provide sustainable benefits to the regional community in which we operate. The operation includes a large open pit mine, complex ore processing and beneficiation plant and significant infrastructure and logistics networks.
We have an opportunity for an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead our Maintenance Engineering team based at the Karara Mine Site.
The Senior Mechanical Engineer collaborates with the maintenance and operations teams to provide engineering support to improve equipment reliability, achieving operational targets for cost, production and safety. The Senior will also ensure all work carried out by the Mechanical Maintenance and Engineering Department complies with Karara’s site standards, regulatory and statutory requirements, and adheres to the relevant Australian standards.
The role requires a high capability in troubleshooting, diagnosis, fault finding and providing technical engineering advice, ensuring issues are resolved in a safe and timely manner maximising availability and production outcomes.
This role operates on an 8 days on and 6 days off roster and is FIFO from Perth or DIDO from Geraldton.
Essential Qualifications, Skills & Experience:
- A Degree in Mechanical Engineering
- Demonstrable experience in mechanical engineering within a processing plant environment (preferably Magnetite processing)
- Demonstrable success in the application of engineering principles and statistical data analysis and implementation of processes
- Familiarity with Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and 5 Why’s work process methods and tools
- An understanding of common predictive technologies: vibration analysis, lubrication, thermography, motor analysis, ultrasonic, machinery analysis, alignment and balancing procedures, and fixed equipment diagnostic technologies
- Demonstrable experience in mechanical engineering within a processing plant environment (preferably Magnetite processing)
- Demonstrable success in the application of engineering principles and statistical data analysis and implementation of processes
- Familiarity with Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and 5 Why’s work process methods and tools
- An understanding of common predictive technologies: vibration analysis, lubrication, thermography, motor analysis, ultrasonic, machinery analysis, alignment and balancing procedures, and fixed equipment diagnostic technologies
- Practical statistical analysis skills, including failure statistics, failure rates, hazard rates and life expectancy
- Computer literacy with previous experience in CMMS Maintenance Systems (SAP preferred)
- Demonstrated ability in the MS Office suite of programs
- Well-developed written and verbal communication skills, with attention to detail
- Australian Citizenship or hold a valid visa with permission to work
- National Police clearance
