Situated within DPC’s Aboriginal Engagement Directorate, the Native Title unit is at the forefront of native title agreement making and implementation, delivering positive social, economic, cultural and community outcomes for Traditional Owners in Western Australia. The work of the unit includes instructing on native title matters in the Federal Court, negotiating native title settlements and related agreements, providing policy advice on native title issues and developing statewide native title policy, as well as managing government actions required to implement comprehensive native title agreements. The team’s work involves direct engagement with native title groups and other Aboriginal communities and organisations and requires close collaboration with a range of WA Government agencies.

About the Role

The Program Manager provides business and project management expertise, supporting the Native Title unit to engage with stakeholders in policy development and deliver outcomes in native title negotiations.

The role is responsible for providing business analysis and business improvement advice to the Executive Director Native Title; leading a team of policy and project support staff; coordinating activities across the unit; and ensuring the quality and consistency of record keeping, data management, reporting, and documentation for the unit.

To be successful in this role you will be innovative and agile leader, with a solid grounding in public administration. You will marshal your experience in business systems to guide the development and implementation of business improvements to support the work of the unit and deploy your organisational skills to promote positive outcomes, accountability and consistency. You will be excellent manager of people, ensuring your team has the capability and capacity to deliver on the strategic objectives of the unit.

To be eligible for appointment, applicants must have a valid working visa (for fixed term appointments) or be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or have a visa to live and work indefinitely in Australia (for permanent appointments) at the time of application.
