The General Manager - Operations is responsible for managing the effective, efficient and timely delivery of field operations and essential support services to the broader GPOT business. Specifically, they are responsible for leading:

  • Human Resources
  • HSEQ
  • Supply Chain
  • Rig Support/ Dalby Workshop
  • Expediting, Purchasing, Manufacturing and the Dalby Distribution Centre 

The leadership of this work scope will include the implementation and delivery of the above support services to the internal customer base within GPOT. This role will also serve as a key member of the Management Team. 

Main Tasks

  • Manage safe execution of field service work and operations 
  • Strategic responsibility for the planning and implementation of support services to the broader GPOT business, meeting key business objectives. Support services includes HSEQ, ERP and systems, Supply chain, Inventory, Distribution and Service Facilities, Purchasing and Expediting 
  • Ensure effective problem solving and conflict resolution mechanisms are in place and available to the rest of the organisation 
  • Ensure corporate risk management strategies are developed which balance the need for innovation and progress and the pragmatic need to manage the risk portfolio of the broader business 
  • Proactively anticipate people issues and ensure that policies and procedures are developed across the organisation to best position it on all people related fronts
  • Active member of the management team 
  • Manage the Operations budget annually and make recommendations for budget forecasts
  • Manage and oversee the set-up of programs and projects for the business, advising on industry best practice. Furthermore, at times taking a lead role in developing business cases and program requires, directly related to business needs/gaps
  • Lead GPOT culture and key business values 
  • Accountable for preparation of key reports relating to support function ROI to the business 
  • Work with Supply Chain Manager, Inventory and Distribution Manager and GM Sales to strategize, plan and implement effective strategies to manage inventory holdings, value and obsolete stock

Skills and Ability 

  • Solid experience in a similar management role with accountability for achieving operational efficiency in a dynamic and rapidly changing environment
  • Experience leading, coaching and managing support functions, ensuring the provision of quality client services across the broader business functions 
  • Solid understanding of manufacturing, supply chain and inventory management
  • Able to work Independently without day-to-day upper management
  • Leadership qualities, with the focus on motivating and inspiring others to achieve best practice business outcomes
  • Ability to hold direct reports to account, with a focus on output and delivery of key targets and relationship building
  • Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply contemporary management practices including workplace health and safety, human resource management, equal employment opportunity and operational efficiencies 
  • Strong commercial acumen, with understanding of budgets, profit and loss statements and key consciousness of support functions “value add” to the broader business unit
  • Strong Communicator who see’s information as enabling and not power
  • Ability to motivate and manage a diverse team across a breadth of activities and to set the HSSE standards required and to lead by example to ensure that all aspects of work are completed safety and in line with GPOT expectations

Education and Knowledge 

  • Tertiary qualification in a business related discipline 
  • Demonstrated highly advanced written and oral communication skills including liaising and consulting with a broad range of internal clients
  • Demonstrated highly advanced ability to problem solve and evaluate system enhancements and solve “on the ground” issues
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail, ability to prioritize in line with business needs, along with effective time management skills
  • A strong and capable leadership style that motivates and drives high performance through others
  • Advanced knowledge of relevant legislation, awards, policies and procedures to support and ensure compliance and best business practice
