At times, you’ll need to think fast to prevent a cybercriminal from accessing computer networks and sensitive information. You’ll also think strategically to outsmart cybercriminals. Part of your role will be to teach others about cyber risks and encourage them to adopt secure digital practices.
What are some example projects or experiences?Cyber security specialists work in all types of rail organisations. They protect critical systems from cybercriminals seeking to steal data or harm business systems.
A cyber security specialist has excellent technical knowledge and attention to detail. They keep on top of the latest technologies that are used to find and eliminate cyber threats.
They’re always ready to respond to a breach, and know how to investigate why it happened to prevent it from happening again.
Cyber security specialists usually need to provide detailed reports to stakeholders. They must understand security frameworks and laws, and may be responsible for writing policies or other documentation.
What is the work environment like?You’ll generally work in an office with IT experts to secure your organisation’s network. Or, you may work in a specialised railway control centre that protects complex signalling, control, and communications systems.
You can find work as a cyber security specialist all around Australia. Most jobs are in cities and towns.
Cyber security specialists typically require a qualification in cyber security, information technology, information systems, or computer science.
