Health, Safety & Environment (Mining, Resources & Energy)

Reporting to Health and Safety Manager, the Safety and Training Adviser is responsible for coordinating safety training activities, including the identification, development and rollout of safety related training programs. The focus of the role is to ensure that SQM Australia personnel are trained accordingly in safety related topics.

The role is Perth based with regular travel to site projects (Exploration/Supply Chain) within Western Australia and Internationally. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Development and roll out of Critical Risk Management - the MyOsh product, in Australia and Internationally.
  • Develop and maintain relevant safety and training policies and procedures, ensuring compliance to relevant legislation.
  • Design, develop, prepare and conduct safety related training programs including:
    • Hazard & Risk Management including Critical Risk
    • Crisis & Emergency Management
    • Internal Assurance
    • Communication & Consultation
    • Leadership coaching
    • Regulatory Requirements
    • Incident investigation
    • Health & Hygiene
    • Inductions
  • Ensure safety training courses meet defined competency standards and regulatory requirements;
  • Preparation of data on safety performance, identification of trends and opportunities for improvement;
  • Conducting safety audits;
  • Undertaking accident and incident investigations;
  • Assisting with the processing of Workers Compensation claims;
  • Provide leadership and guidance to staff and clients, acting as a positive, professional role model;
  • Develop and sustain strong relationships with various stakeholders;
  • Contributing personal results and behaviors to support SQMA in achieving its strategy.

Qualifications and experience

  • Occupational Health & Safety qualification – Minimum Diploma WHS
  • Certificate IV in Training & Assessment
  • Lead Auditor
  • Experienced in developing and monitoring a Training Needs Analysis 
  • Understanding of Learning Management Systems
  • Understanding of Business needs
  • Understanding of the Australian Tertiary & Vocational Education Training frameworks
  • Understanding of the RII training package
  • Ability to conduct Verification of competency (VOC)
  • Background in Exploration or Surface Drilling or Supply Chain HSE
  • A confident, highly motivated and self-driven and able to work autonomously 
  • A team player who will fit in our inclusive culture 
  • Excellent computer skills (Microsoft 365) and ability to pick up new systems quickly
  • Strong work ethic, flexible, adaptable, and reliable
