About the role

We are looking for aPrincipal Advisor Data and Analysisto join our State Agreement and Approvals team in Perth. This role will lead a team of technical experts in the management, analysis, and interpretation of an extensive database of ecological data from the Pilbara region and assist in using it to underpin environmental approvals and shape future planning.

This role is a great opportunity to lead advancements in data analysis and management and its role in promoting positive outcomes for biodiversity at a regional scale. As part of the State Agreement and Approvals team, you will:

  • Lead an aligned, high-performing team of technical professionals to manage and improve biological knowledge in the Pilbara.
  • Develop and deliver the data and analysis work program, turning environmental data into knowledge.
  • Collaborate and partner with key internal stakeholders to drive alignment on strategic decisions and long-term plans for biological data and ecosystem services across thebusiness.
  • Engage with third parties, including government agencies and research institutions to drive innovation and solve complex challenges, particularly regarding cumulative impact on biodiversity values in the Pilbara.
  • Provide strategic direction on developing, revising, and implementing data improvement projects based on best practice, experience, and subject matterexpertise.
  • Use data driven insights to provide advice and recommendations on management response actions tooperational and functional leadership teams at both asset and broader regionalscales.
  • Manage the capability and development needs of the team, actively managing talent and ensure resourcingaligns to objectives & needs of thebusiness.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement by identifying, evaluating, and implementing improvementopportunitiesutilisinga range of Rio Tinto bestpractices.
  • Collaborate closely and be a conduit with other functions and stakeholders in the performance of duties.

You will have demonstrated experience in the WA based resources industry and engagements with regulators and industry bodies and the environmental protection act approvals.

It is integral that your communication skills are at a high standard, you are strategic in your thinking and apply a high level of rigor in your work.

To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:

  • Tertiary qualifications in a relevant field (GIS, Ecology, Program Management, or related data sciences) with 10+ years’ relevant experience.
  • Experience in leading teams, strategic program delivery and improvement programs.
  • Demonstrated experience in the collection, analysis and interpretation of ecological and spatial data
  • Detailed knowledge and experience of Western Australian State and Commonwealth environmental legislation.
  • Strong communication skills, inclusive leadership, and a people-centric approach
  • Capacity to organise, track and manage routine and emergent activities
  • Demonstrated expertise in driving performance outcomes through collaboration and partnering
  • Ability to develop and maintain positive relationships with a range of stakeholders including peers, research bodies, and government agencies.
  • Strong project management skills, including time management, scheduling, budgeting, and coordinating teams.

Where you’ll be working

You and your team will be Perth-based with opportunity to work flexibly from home combined with time in our Central Park offices. There will be the opportunity for some Pilbara site travel from time to time, however this will be done on an ad-hoc basis.
