About the Role 

The role is to effectively to lead, manage, motivate and develop a team to achieve successful business outcomes. This role will manage work activities, monitor performance, and provide leadership to maintain an effective and motivated team. The Statutory Planning function includes responsibilities to review and respond to planning applications referred to the department under the Planning & Environment Act 1987 in a timely, coordinated and efficient manner. 

The candidate should effectively lead, manage, and develop a team to achieve business outcomes and ensure timely responses to planning application referrals. They should oversee the planning and regulation of land use to enhance the transport network while complying with statutory requirements. The candidate must be capable of representing the department at senior meetings and hearings, negotiating with key stakeholders on development impacts, and providing expert planning advice on complex applications. Additionally, they should lead strategic business planning, change management, financial management, and resource management activities, and assess high-risk planning referrals, seeking necessary approvals from senior management.

Qualifications and Experience 

Mandatory 

• Tertiary qualification relevant to Statutory Planning and/or Traffic Engineering, and/or extensive relevant experience.

 • Experience relevant to the accountabilities and capabilities of the role.

• Experience in growth area planning.
