Building on an open and trusting team and culture, we’re looking for a proactive HR leader to design and implement the systems and processes required to take our culture, career development and training to the next level.

ABOUT US

Floating Solutions Consulting is a purpose driven, flexible and nimble maritime Engineering Consultancy. We provide independent technical, strategic and commercial advice and support to clients across the Energy, Commercial and Defence sectors to optimise the in-service performance and sustainment of hull structures. What that means is we bring the ‘engineering smarts’ which are traditionally mainly applied during design, into the operations / sustainment phase. Given this typically makes up around 70% of the total lifecycle costs of an asset our work can deliver major benefits. 

Founded in 2017, we’ve grown to a team of 20 based on a strong track record of being a trusted and reliable partner providing clients with significant safety and environmental risk reductions and cost savings in this space.

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

  • Things have worked well so far, but we have outgrown our more informal HR systems and really need to set ourselves up for the future.
  • So, we need a big picture, strategic thinker armed with experience who can imagine, communicate and plan for our team to grow and develop. 
  • Our team of 20 is diverse in character, culture, nationality and location, with about half based in Perth, and the rest spread remotely across Malaysia, India, Bangladesh and the Philippines. We are very proud of how close and trusting the team is even with our remote working model.
  • As we operate with this remote model, we need a highly skilled proactive communicator, able to establish close relationships online and across cultures. This model also means that you need to be comfortable working largely independently, engaging well across the team and other leaders online and in person.
  • You will be the 'people champion' and complement the leadership team who largely have engineering backgrounds. We want you to be comfortably constructively challenging as we collectively work to build FSC.

  • Reporting to the Director, onboarding and assignment of responsibilities will be phased (3-6 months) after which it is expected that the successful candidate will join the Leadership Team.

  • Ensure efficient management of onboarding and personnel records.

  • Ensure that our employees are actively and effectively supported in their career development and have a great work-life balance.

Remuneration & Profit Share

  • Implement the most market competitive and fairly distributed remuneration and profit share possible across the team (within the framework defined by the owner).

Organisational Structure

  • Ensure clarity of purpose, accountabilities and decision rights for all Leadership and Team roles across the organisation.
  • Ensure the Leadership Operating System is fit for purpose, understood and in use across the whole team.

Decision rights

Part of the role will be to formalise decision rights across all team roles. Decision rights for this role are likely for example to include:

  • Leave approvals
  • Promotions and pay increases
  • Training budget
  • Required OHS training / certification

Initial key role priorities / challenges

Develop and implement:

  • FSC career roadmap / framework (role profiles, grades, skills & attributes, levels of ability etc.)
  • Suitable personnel development & training support framework (technical, soft skills, project management, leadership etc.)
  • Improve distribution of opportunities across remote and Perth teams
  • Development / improvement of clarity of purpose, accountabilities and decision rights for all Leadership and Team roles across the organisation

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, WORKING ARRANGEMENTS AND REMUNERATION

Qualifications: Batchelor’s Degree or higher in a relevant field.

Experience level: At least 10 years relevant experience including designing, implementing (and measuring) strategic HR initiatives. Ideally (but not necessarily) experience in a professional services environment with a good understanding of the type of training and development required for professional engineers.

Location: Perth, Western Australia.

Start date: ASAP subject to notice periods etc.

Working hours: Flexible FT or PT (3-5 days per week) with flexible working pattern.

Work location: Flexible between FSC office (Perth CBD) / working from home.

Contract type: Permanent employee with 5 weeks annual leave (pro rata for part time).

Remuneration: Base Salary + generous Profit Share

  • Base salary: Range $120-150k FTE including Super, negotiable depending on experience (see also profit share details below).
  • Profit Share:You will be eligible for FSC’s profit share scheme (50% of the net profit shared between employees). Profit share target is 25-35% salary increase. Performance to date (3 years) has been 25-42% salary increase (average 33%). Profit share is not guaranteed but is also not capped.
