Ventia Defence Business Unit operates one of the largest private Firefighting businesses in Australia. This includes fire response (aviation, structural and bushfire), search and rescue first response support, and fire station watch room services.
Reporting to the National Operations Manager, Ventia now has a genuine opportunity for a Fire Capability Manager (WA) to effectively manage and drive the Western Australian performance across the Fire Service Contract.

The Role
Ventia is seeking a Fire Capability Manager to oversee and manage the Western Australian operations of structural firefighting, crash rescue, bushfire, and aviation critical assets and response. The Fire Capability Manager will provide leadership over the operational teams in their successful deployment of personnel and equipment to provide Defence with immediate response capability. The Fire Capability Manager will have a strong focus on safety, compliance, people leadership, and operational service delivery.
Duties Include:
- Manage operational teams in their day-to-day service delivery to ensure deployment of resources as required to contract specification
- Lead Ventia’s ‘safety and health above all else’ promise by driving safety, environment & health outcomes by role modeling our LEAD behaviors (Learning, Engaging, Accountability, Discipline) and leading a culture of compliance
- Communicate, report, and escalate SHEQ, compliance, and operational changes to senior management
- Successfully foster an inclusive working environment by leading employee engagement and driving service excellence
- Lead the Strategic Resource plan and its application to ensure team capability meets contract and financial objectives
- Build relationships with Defence Service Personnel, SEG Leadership, and Base Community including Industry partners to raise the profile of Ventia Fire and Rescue.
About you:
- Post Graduate qualified in Business Management or Human Resources (preferred)
- Experience in the application of a safety management system in a high-risk operating environment
- Background in service delivery across a geographically dispersed operation with a large workforce
- Demonstrated experience with leading People programs including recruitment, training and leadership development, mentoring, and change management
- Experience in resourcing practices to ensure objectives are met for operational requirements, leave burn, and financial targets
- Experience in the application of Enterprise Agreements and partnering with unions
- Customer Centric through excellent relationship management and engagement, with the ability to relate well to all levels of Defence, Industry Partners, and Ventia Management
- Commercially astute with experience in financial reporting, SHEQ, compliance, and governance
