Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, is a major metropolitan tertiary referral hospital and a principal provider of specialist healthcare. It is one of the nation’s most respected hospitals, with a distinguished history of serving the health needs of local, statewide, national and international communities.

The University of Sydney and Sydney Local Health District have developed a collaborative research hub known as the Institute for Musculoskeletal Health. The Institute brings together musculoskeletal healthcare researchers from both academia and clinical practice and provides a platform to strengthen existing alliances whilst developing new local, national, and international collaborations. We operate according to the policy and procedures of both institutions, as applicable.

About the role

The PROTECT (Prevention Through Education and Coaching) Fall Prevention Program Quality Coach has operational and strategic responsibility for the delivery of quality coaching to multidisciplinary hospital ward staff across SLHD as part of the PROTECT Fall Prevention Program and research trial. The role provides specialised advice about, and monitoring, analysis and implementation of quality improvement, practice development and change management processes relevant to hospital fall prevention which concurrently contributes to delivery of the Fall Prevention and Management Strategy. The role will work intensively with three cohorts of four inpatient wards across SLHD inpatient facilities, each cohort running for 16 weeks. General oversight of the wards quality improvement activities will continue beyond the 16 weeks.

The PROTECT Fall Prevention Program is a program being implemented and evaluated in a clinical trial across inpatient facilities in SLHD. It is funded by a National Health and Medical Research Centre (NHMRC) Partnership grant: “Quality Coaching to Implement a Hospital Fall Prevention Strategy” led by Professor Cathie Sherrington, Deputy Director of the Institute for Musculoskeletal Health.

  • A current registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
  • Experience in leading staff and managing services in the relevant setting, supported by a relevant tertiary management qualification and/or work experience.
  • Experience in developing, implementing and managing quality improvement projects relevant to clinical care
  • A current NSW Driver's Licence (P1 and P2 licence is acceptable) is preferable.
