Overview
The LGAQ communications team serves as the Association’s strategic voice, comprising a vibrant group of skilled professionals in marketing, social media, journalism and internal communications. Following the recent local government elections, the Association is updating our Member Communications’ strategy to enhance our support for members.
As the Association’s Senior Social Media and Digital Communications Officer, you will be responsible for leading the Association’s digital and social media strategy and presence, along with enhancing the value of our member portal by ensuring digital content is engaging, up to date and presented in LGAQ voice.
The role is part of the communications team and reports to the Manager, Member Communications. You will work closely with the Chief Executive Officer, and a wide range of internal and external stakeholders to ensure the availability of high quality social media and web content.

This is a full time role based in Newstead, Qld. The right candidate for this role will fit in with our collaborative culture and enjoy contributing to Queensland communities.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the development, implementation and evaluation of the Association’s digital and social media strategy
- Manage the CEO’s social media presence including planning, delivery and evaluation of material
- Facilitate the development and availability of valued and up to date content on LGAQ’s member portal and website, and build increased member engagement with these resources
- Analyse and interpret data to maximise engagement of LGAQ digital content across all platforms.
- Grow social media and web content use and capability within staff to enhance the Association’s reputation and presence
- Provide advice in relation to social media and digital communications within the Association and to the Local Government Communications network, as required
- Identify opportunities to support and enhance campaigns and other communications to members by leveraging the use of social media
- Prepare engaging digital content aligned to the LGAQ voice, for use across multiple channels
- Adhere to all workplace relevant legislation and LGAQ policies
- Contribute to the LGAQ culture through application of the CARE Behaviours and participation in workplace activities.
- Undertake travel as required
To be successful in this role you will have:
- Demonstrated experience in growing an organisation’s digital and social media presence through development, implementation and evaluation of a digital and social media strategy.
- A collegiate approach to working with and listening to colleagues and a passion for working with people in a team-based approach.
- Proven high-level written and verbal communication skills and ability to create a range of engaging digital content.
- Well developed interpersonal skills including the ability to work with senior stakeholders and to influence and negotiate positive outcomes.
- Demonstrated ability to gather, analyse and interpret data for building evidence based social media engagement.
- High level planning and organisation skills to ensure on time delivery.
- Ability to occasionally work in an uncertain environment, display tenacity to deliver results with the capacity to be flexible and adapt to changing circumstances and priorities
- Tertiary qualifications in Communications, Media, Creative Industries or equivalent will be well regarded.
- A current driver’s licence and ability to travel.
