Opportunity:

To effectively support the Agency, the Data and Software Engineering function requires a Technical Lead to assist in the uplift and on-going development of our data management and analytics capabilities. 
The Data & Software Engineering Technical Lead will be responsible for making intuitive, high-level software design decisions in the Investment Technology and Investment Business Operations space. 
Critical to success in the role will be a solid understanding of investment strategy and the role of technology in investment decision making. 

The successful candidate will have extensive experience across the entire software development life cycle applied specifically to the Financial Investment sector.

 

Key Responsibilities:

Technical Thought Leadership

• Provide technical thought leadership and contribute to the development of an outcome-orientated architecture that responds to our Investment teams core data and analytics requirements: Access, Quality, Analysis and Insight.
• Adopt a 'big picture' view on Financial Investment IT solutions - spanning across Platform, Data and Software engineering. Play a critical role in defining key software components and interfaces.
• Be a key contributor to the Agency long term technology strategy with regards to platforms, tools and open source libraries.
• Actively seek ways to improve software processes and interactions.

Technical Collaboration

• Through communities of practice, foster a culture of collaboration between the engineering and product teams, continuously eliciting feedback about their challenges and level of satisfaction with software development practices, tools and libraries.
• Work closely with the Investment Teams, Pillar Managers and Tech Leads to triage new requests, ensure designs adhere to vetted patterns, and prevent the creation of silos.
• Engage with a range of stakeholders across the Agency including investment teams, security, architects, technical leads, quant developers and software engineers. 
• Work with and guide stakeholders through the full SDLC, from proof of concept through to production.
• Develop and own a series of standardised technical solutions across the Investment Technology and Investment Business Operations space.
• Provides guidance and mentorship to people across the organisation as opportunities arise.

Development

• Be a hands-on contributor involved in the development of new and existing solutions across investment tech, and the broader Investment Business Operations group.
• Work closely with tech leads and developers to ensure all solutions comply with approved patterns, and to further improve SDLC tooling and processes. 
• Use a proactive approach to common challenges by continually researching best practices and new developments in software engineering.
 

Qualifications:

• Be a qualified technology professional with demonstrated relevant experience.
• Qualification in a field requiring a high degree of analytical and numerical literacy (physics, mathematics, engineering) would be highly desirable.
• Have a solid understanding of financial services organisations, preferably with an Investment Fundamentals qualification, eg, CFA Institute’s Investment Foundations Program.

Experience:

• Significant experience working on large-scale IT projects, specifically in the Financial Investments sector.
• Significant experience in software engineering, workflow and automation and data & analytics roles.
• In-depth knowledge of software delivery lifecycle, including demonstrated experience across coding and code management, peer review, unit testing, integration testing, user acceptance testing production release and support, preferably within an agile and continuous delivery environment.
• Significant experience with Python and SQL.
• Demonstrated strong experience with modern cloud technologies, preferably in AWS.
• Experience with cloud data platforms such as Databricks (including Spark) and/or Snowflake is highly desirable.
• Experience with a Python-based orchestration tool such as Airflow, Dagster or Luigi is highly desirable.
• Experience with a Python-based analytics platform such as Dash is highly desirable.
• Experience with DevOps technologies such as Git, GitHub Actions, BitBucket, Bamboo, BuildKite, Powershell, Bash.
• Experience using the Atlassian stack, particularly JIRA and Confluence is desirable.
• Experience in self-discovery and visualisation technologies is desirable, for example Power BI.
• Experience with Web UI development frameworks such as React is highly desirable.
