BYLC bases its teachings and beliefs on the Bible (Old and New Testaments), which it regards as the inspired and inerrant Word of God.

Description
The Burnett Youth Learning Centre is a registered Special Assistance School (SAS), affiliated with Independent Schools of Queensland, situated on a 28-hectare farm just south of Bundaberg, Queensland. We are a Christian response to a local need and we are here to support young people who have disengaged or are at risk of disengaging from mainstream education. We offer young people the chance to learn in a supportive, alternative education setting which acknowledges and emphasises the unique God-given value, goals and dreams of each individual.

Burnett Youth Learning Centre offers many learning opportunities through courses in practical and vocational areas which can be recorded toward a student’s Queensland Certificate of Education, Queensland Certificate of Individual Achievement, Senior Education Profile, and vocational qualification certificates.

We provide:

· Australian Curriculum for Years 7-10

· Nationally recognised Vocational Educational and Training courses and certificates

· Short Course Literacy and Numeracy as well as literacy and numeracy support

· Computer literacy programs

· Career development and transition programs

· Assistance to access external providers such as TAFE and CQUniversity SUN course

We also offer a range of extra-curricular activities such as:

· Life skills development

· Pastoral care coaching and support

· Adventure based recreational activities

· Community service projects

· Work experience

Role Purpose
The Principal is the highest executive role at Burnett Youth Learning Centre, reporting directly to the Board. This role has both strategic and operational components. Working with, and under the guidance of the Board, the Principal will be responsible for planning and leading the delivery of the Centre’s Mission and Vision across all areas.

Maintaining the importance of the Gospel as central to all the objectives of the learning centre, the Principal will have responsibility for autonomously driving the effective use of resources to achieve the strategic objectives set by the Board, and ensuring the centre’s status as an independent, Christian Special Assistance School.

This position will hold foremost responsibility for the oversight of all activities across the centre’s core business areas, including:

· Middle School

· Senior School

· RTO

· Farm & Enterprise

· Business, Finance, and WHS Management

With reference to the Australian Professional Standard and Leadership Profiles for Principals this will entail:

· Embodying the beliefs and values of Bundaberg Bible Church (the Member) and providing a specifically Christian role model to all staff, students, families associated with the centre, and the wider community

· Leading teaching and learning

· Developing self and others

· Leading improvement, innovation and change

· Leading the management of the learning centre

· Engaging with and working with the community

· Maintaining an excellent knowledge and understanding of the broader education environment within Queensland and Australia, and the role of a Principal in the leadership of a Christian School.

· Exhibiting a high aptitude for self-reflection, interpersonal and social skills, particularly as it relates to the adaptation of leadership and management approaches to their leadership role, including an awareness of the importance their own personal wellbeing in the leadership and management of the school.
