The Department of Government Services (DGS) was established on 1 January 2023 to improve everyone's experience of doing business and interacting with the Victorian government. We bring important day-to-day services together in one department to make things easy and seamless for Victorians and businesses. We are doing this by connecting and digitising our systems and platforms across state and local government as well as streamlining our corporate and procurement services.
About the role
The Finance Reporting Manager is responsible for the Department's accounting and financial reporting information and to provide expert advice to senior management in regard to the application of accounting standards and other complex accounting issues
Key Accountabilities
- Preparing DGS's annual financial statements along with other financial reporting obligations in accordance with the relevant legislation, Accounting Standards, and Department of Treasury and Finance financial reporting guidance.
- Ensure the integrity and accuracy of DGS's accounting data; administer the Balance Sheet reconciliation process including trust account balances and ensure performance of robust reviews based on set frequency and timelines.
- Lead improvements in the financial statement preparation process, embedding quality assurance checks to improve outcomes.
- Manage compliance with the relative accounting pronouncements regarding complex transactions.
- Drive improvements in the financial reporting process, by leveraging on new reports developed from the Enterprise Resource Planning system.
About you
To be considered for the role, you must be able to demonstrate:
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in financial analysis and reporting, particularly in the preparation and analysis of statutory financial statements with a degree in accounting or equivalent, preferably with government knowledge and experience.
- Practical experience with Financial Management Information Systems and government accounting with demonstrated experience in MS office and proficiency in MS Excel.
- Ability to apply the Australian Accounting Standards or International equivalents in solving an accounting query or problem.
- Ability to liaise with internal and external stakeholders, use organisational context to ensure positive outcomes are achieved for all parties. Ability to build mutually beneficial partnerships.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to identify and mitigate financial risks.
Mandatory requirements
An appropriate qualification in Accounting, Business, Economics or related fields
