About Morse Micro: Morse Micro is a pioneering fabless semiconductor company specializing in Wi-Fi HaLow solutions. As we continue to innovate and expand, we are seeking a dedicated and experienced Open Source Platform Manager to lead our open-source software and hardware initiatives and support our Developer Community model.

Position Overview: The Open Source Platform Manager will be responsible for executing our strategy to support the Developer Community model and open-source software initiatives. You will be responsible for Morse Micro’s online presence and support various packages including Linux kernel drivers, Linux networking packages, OpenWRT, Buildroot, and embedded software Real Time Operating Systems (RTOS) such as FreeRTOS and Zephyr on various hardware platforms. This role involves managing the open-source software & hardware team, open source support team, engaging with external software & hardware developer communities, launching projects on GitHub, determining the appropriate licensing models, and collaborating with various internal teams to ensure the successful implementation and support of open-source hardware & software.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Execution:
    • Develop and execute the plan to support the Developer Community model.
    • Launch and manage open-source projects on GitHub, ensuring timely and high-quality releases.
    • Determine and implement the appropriate licensing models for open-source software, in collaboration with the legal team.
  • Team Leadership:
    • Recruit, lead and manage a small team to execute on this strategy.
    • Provide guidance, mentorship, and performance management to the team.
    • Foster a collaborative and innovative team environment.
  • Collaboration and Coordination:
    • Work closely with internal software and applications teams to prepare code for open sourcing.
    • Provide internal teams with insight about community direction, overview of most popular & active projects (based on pull requests, community discussions, etc).
    • Collaborate with the legal team on licensing matters.
    • Coordinate with the communications team on website content and community support strategies.
    • Utilize platforms such as StackOverflow, GitHub, etc for community support and engagement.
  • Community and Support:
    • Develop and manage community support strategies, leveraging platforms like StackOverflow.
    • Ensure effective support for open-source users, including handling community questions and pull requests.
  • Documentation and Training:
    • Oversee the creation and maintenance of comprehensive documentation for open-source projects.
    • Provide training and support to internal teams and external developers as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Education and Experience:
    • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
    • Minimum of 5 years of experience in software development, with at least 3 years in a management or leadership role.
    • Proven experience with open-source software development and community engagement.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Experience with embedded Linux, OpenWRT, or RTOS (FreeRTOS, Zephyr, etc.).
    • Experience with open source collaboration schemes, e.g. Linux patching vs FreeRTOS pull requests.
    • Proficiency in programming languages such as C, C++, Python, and shell scripting.
    • Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git) and collaborative development platforms (e.g., GitHub).
  • Leadership and Collaboration:
    • Excellent leadership and team management skills.
    • Strong project management abilities, with a track record of successfully delivering complex projects.
    • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across multiple teams and stakeholders.
  • Licensing and Legal:
    • Understanding of open-source licensing models and compliance requirements.
    • Experience working with legal teams to ensure proper licensing and usage of open-source software.
