The organisation will drive delivery of world-class pumped hydro assets to provide the long-term storage and reliability needed to power Queensland’s clean energy future. The organisation will play a critical role in assisting the Queensland Government to meet its renewable energy targets of 70% renewables by 2032, 80% by 2035 and net zero emissions by 2050, supporting the shift in the Australian economy to a decarbonised energy system.

The role

The Senior Project Environmental Advisor role for the Borumba Pumped Hydro Energy Storage Project, is an important role in ensuring strict environmental compliance, offset area management, and fostering sustainable relationships and practices throughout the project's lifecycle. This position demands a unique blend of technical proficiency, management acumen, and proactive planning to ensure environmental assurance compliance, effective offset area management, coordinate project permitting activities. This position offers an exciting opportunity to lead environmentally responsible infrastructure delivery on a large scale.

In the capacity of Senior Project Environmental Advisor, you'll lead by providing guidance and oversight across all environmental and cultural heritage facets throughout the project's lifecycle. This influential role necessitates seasoned proficiency in environmental sciences, regulatory compliance, cultural heritage, and sustainable practices. Your expertise is pivotal for ensuring environmental compliance, coordinating project permitting activities, cultural heritage management, advancing sustainability goals and managing environmental offset activities.

Accountabilities

  • Provide specialist advice to Project Leadership on project environmental, sustainability and cultural heritage management and compliance issues to assist in integrating.
  • Innovative sustainable practices into the Project's design, construction, and operational phases.
  • Mentor and coach project staff on environmental, sustainability and cultural heritage issues.
  • Oversee the identification, implementation, and management of offset measures to
  • Compensate for unavoidable environmental impacts, ensuring net positive environmental outcomes.
  • Lead engagement efforts regarding environmental, sustainability and cultural heritage
  • Issues with diverse stakeholders, including regulatory bodies, local communities, environmental agencies, and within the Project.

  • Continuously monitor and guide project phases for strict compliance and adapt strategies to ensure continual adherence.
  • Develop and conduct workshops and training sessions to enhance awareness among project teams regarding environmental regulations, best practices, and the importance of sustainability.
  • Champion a culture of environmental responsibility within the project framework.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will ideally possess:

  • Bachelor’s degree qualification in environmental science, natural resource management, environmental engineering or equivalent and 10 years of experience including extensive.
  • Demonstrated experience leading environmental aspects of large infrastructure projects and leadership of teams is required.
  • Registration (or ability to obtain registration within 6 months of appointment) as a Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland (RPEQ) is required for holders of an environmental engineering qualification.

Knowledge And Skills

  • Sound knowledge of environmental laws, regulations, and compliance standards relevant to delivery of large infrastructure projects in Queensland, Australia.
  • Proficiency in leading and conducting detailed environmental impact assessments and utilising advanced analytical tools.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to engage and collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in assessing and managing cultural heritage matters relating to delivery of large infrastructure projects.
  • Keen attention to detail and foresight in mitigating potential environmental risks.
  • Collaborative leadership style, capable of effectively leading cross-functional teams.
  • Advanced problem-solving abilities and a strategic approach to environmental planning and execution.
  • Passionate about driving sustainable initiatives and fostering a culture of environmental responsibility within project development.
