The Opportunity?

Northern Star’s Jundee Operations currently has a great opportunity for an Alternate Open Pit Manager to join us in a permanent, full-time capacity, and working an ongoing 8/6 FIFO roster out of Perth.

Reporting to the Open Pit Manager,the successful candidate will be supported by an experienced and dedicated site team, and operate as the statutory holder on site, with the primary focus being to develop and operate open pit mine functions across Jundee.

Responsibilities of the role include:

  • Be the appointed Quarry Manager for the Operation pursuant to the 2022 Work Health and Safety (Mines) Regulations.
  • Be a focal point for driving and championing best practice safety and regulatory compliance across site, with the ongoing development and improvement of safe systems of work always front and centre.
  • Develop and manage the open pit mine safely and efficiently to best achieve site targets, objectives and deliverables.
  • Drive effective communication across all departments at site, ensuring direct communication with mine personnel from you on a regular basis, keeping them informed of any relevant information or details around the operation.
  • Directly oversee the effective management and supervision of any mining contractors on site.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of operating plans and budgets at Jundee that align with the business strategy and maximise earning potential.
  • Provide collaborative coaching, training and mentoring to your direct reports / team, that best position them for personal and professional development opportunities within the business.

About you?

With extensive experience in a relevant open pit mining role, you will have significant leadership and people management experience within a remote site environment and possess a genuine commitment and drive for safely delivering success on site targets, objectives and deliverables across your remit.

The following will see you set for success in this key role:

  • Hold a Quarry Manager’s Certificate of Competency or First Class Mine Manager’s Certificate of Competency, along with previous management and statutory position holding experience.
  • At least 10 to 15 years relevant site-based experience in the mining industry, including applicable open pit mining experience, ideally within WA.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to build collaborative & functional relationships across a diverse range of stakeholders.
  • Strong people management and leadership experience, with the ability to lead from the front and by example, and to motivate and drive your team to achieve site objectives and deliverables.
  • Possess a sound understanding and working knowledge of the Mine Safety and Inspection Act & Regulations.
  • Solid computer literacy across the Microsoft Office Suite, as well as mine planning and scheduling software.
  • You possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to anticipate and plan for potential scenarios across your key responsibility areas.
  • Well organised with a keen attention to detail, you naturally look to mitigate and control potential risks around safety and damage to plant & equipment.
  • Flexible and adaptable to changing priorities, you multitask effectively, and are comfortable in a dynamic and outcome focused environment.
