Senior Grid Connection Engineer- Project Management

Tilt Renewables is seeking a Senior Grid Connection Engineer with a focus on Project Management to join our Grid Connection team. In this pivotal role, you will lead grid connection projects from initial feasibility through to post-R2 operation. Senior / Principal Engineer – Electrical and BESS

Tilt Renewables is seeking a Senior / Principal Engineer – Electrical and BESS to join our dynamic Engineering team. As part of our Engineering team, you’ll coordinate engineering activities in the development phase, preparation of conceptual designs and technical specifications, supporting the procurement of BESS and wind farm balance of plant (BOP) packages, striving to deliver quality assets and delivering continuous improvement.

The Senior / Principal Engineer – Electrical and BESS will work with others in the multi-discipline Engineering team, as well as project development managers, project directors, the commercial team, asset management / operational team, and external stakeholders such as contractors and consultants.

Key Accountabilities will include:

  • Technical Leadership: You’ll take on the Lead Engineer role on assigned wind farm and/or BESS development projects for delivery of agreed solutions to an agreed schedule, coordinating cross-discipline resources and managing technical interfaces.
  • Project Development: Provide electrical engineering support in relation to project design and engineering approach for greenfield wind farm and BESS development feasibility studies, de-risking, and financial analysis for project progression and investment decisions. Contribute to project design, feasibility studies, risk mitigation, and financial analysis. Offer expert advice in relation to site reticulation design, substation and grid connection design, SCADA & park controller interfaces, interfaces with grid modelling (R1/R2 processes, GPS compliance) and electrical construction.
  • Technical Support to Procurement: Work with project development and commercial teams, supporting technical aspects involved in BESS and wind farm BOP procurement.
  • Delivery Support: Provide technical and engineering support to wind farm and BESS construction projects including constructability assessments, progress reviews, site visits, review of ITPs and quality records, review of milestone claims and assessment of defects.
  • Resource management: Undertake resource planning and work allocation for a small number of team members (1-3) in the electrical discipline.
  • Asset Management Support: Support operational projects with technical advice on operational issues, defects, maintenance plans and optimisation opportunities.
  • Continuous Improvement: You’ll stay updated with industry trends and advancements in renewable project design and delivery to drive continuous improvement and innovation.
  • Leadership: Demonstrate initiative, collaboration, and strong communication skills in all activities.
  • Financial and risk management: Provide inputs to budgeting, cost control and forecasting processes. Support project business cases by reviewing and challenging costs where appropriate.
  • Team development: Mentor and guide engineering and cross-function team members, sharing technical expertise and fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional growth.

  • Proficiency in running steady state simulations using PSSE and DIgSILENT platforms to evaluate project feasibility and grid integration scenarios.
  • Proficient in using project management software (e.g., MS Project, Smartsheet).
  • Effective Communication and Stakeholder Engagement Skills – you’ll have a natural ability to engage, lead technical conversations and build relationships with industry connections such as NSP’s and regulatory bodies such as AEMO.

Qualifications:
