About the role

We are looking for a Principal Advisor Environmental Approval to help lead the Iron Ore business through the implementation and governance of regional environmental approvals. In this role you will assist in developing and embedding strategies to enable growth through innovation.

You will be recognized as an experienced leader within the Environmental Approvals department and act as a mentor within the group. We are an open, connected global team that includes some of the industry’s best and brightest minds. Reporting to the Manager Environmental and Government Approvals in the State Agreement and Approval division, you will work in a collaborative community. Where integrity is key, you will lead a team of highly capable and qualified professionals whilst demonstrating your deep understanding of environmental policy and legislation. 

Your stakeholder management skills will be vital in this role as you will be required to engage with a dynamic group both internal and external to the business, including Joint Ventures, State and Commonwealth Departments, industry bodies (e.g. CME), and Non-Government Organizations. 

As the Principal Advisor Environmental Approval, you will be exposed to commercially confidential work on behalf of Rio Tinto therefore your due diligence is integral in this role as well as your ability to manage expectations from the multiple stakeholder groups under a time pressure. 

You will provide guidance to your team and the business. As a technical leader who brings their knowledge of relevant legislation, you will oversee the development application of legislative changes and provide input to these on behalf of Rio Tinto. Additionally, you will be required to utilize your change management skills as you manage and embed legislative changes which have an impact to the Rio Tinto business.

What you’ll bring

You will have demonstrated experience in the WA based resources industry, or senior regulatory approvals role, demonstrating strong experience in stakeholder engagements and ability to influence and drive change through innovation.

It is integral that your communication skills are at a high standard, you are strategic in your thinking and apply a high level of rigor in your work.

An Environmental Science or related Degree is preferable for this role.

Where you’ll be working

You and your team will be Perth-based with opportunity to work flexibly from home combined with time in our Central Park offices. There will be the opportunity for some Pilbara site travel from time to time, however this will be done on an ad-hoc basis.
