Where and how you can work

Our flagship campus is in Sydney. We also have a campus in Melbourne and co-working spaces in Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide. But you have choice in where and how you work, we trust our Canvanauts to choose the balance that empowers them and their team to achieve their goals.

What you’d be doing in this role

As Canva scales change continues to be part of our DNA. But we like to think that's all part of the fun. So this will give you the flavour of the type of things you'll be working on when you start, but this will likely evolve.

At the moment, this role is focused on:

  • Coaching and Leadership: You'll coach a team of 5 Product Designers, supporting and growing their capabilities through 1:1 coaching, feedback and guidance.
  • Vision and Strategy: You'll clearly define the design vision, strategy, and roadmap for your design group and senior stakeholders. Through clear communication, you will simplify complex concepts and adapt plans if priorities evolve.
  • Scaling the Product Design team: You'll plan for future design resourcing needs within the group to scale the way we build and support the interaction of users from 190 countries with Canva’s content, from search to inspiration.
  • Shaping and establishing design processes: By guiding design best practices, you'll enable more significant impact and efficiency across the team.
  • Team building: Through group and team identity, ways of working, rituals and processes. Creating and nurturing a positive environment of belonging, trust, safety, and inclusion.
  • Prioritisation: You can take broad, conceptual ideas and collaborate with Product Managers and Engineering Leads to ensure that the team prioritises the most valuable features.
  • Research: You understand how to support teams as they dive into competitors, trends, patterns, best practices, UX design inspiration, and user and business insights.
  • Partnering with leadership: You’ll contribute to the overall strategy and goals of the supergroup and Product Design specialty;bringing your ideas and forward-thinking to level up our collective craft and impact.

You're probably a match if you have

  • End-to-end Product Design experience: You bring 8 - 10+ years of experience as a Product Designer, Interaction Designer, or Researcher. Experience leading in Discovery (Search, Recommendations, Marketplace) or Applied AI (experimentation, computer vision, NLP) spaces is a plus.
  • Leadership experience: You have 3+ years of experience managing a team of Product Designers and you are dedicated to nurturing the development and growth of your team members.
  • Technical collaboration experience: You have collaborated closely with engineers and data scientists to integrate machine learning and other technologies essential for enhancing search, recommendations, and applied AI experiences.
  • Effective communication skills: You create clarity through your communication by making complex things simple. You can confidently present your ideas and tell a compelling story to the broader team.
  • Data literacy: You leverage both quantitative and qualitative data to craft beautiful experiences.
  • Experience working in global markets: You have a keen understanding of designing for different languages and cultures.
  • Experience working alongside content creators: You love collaborating with graphic designers, videographers, and photographers.
