We are seeking an exceptional Indigenous Australian leader and academic to join us as the Executive Dean of the newly created Faculty of Indigenous Knowledges and Culture. This position offers the unique opportunity to shape the strategic direction and academic vision of the Faculty, ensuring that the Faculty becomes a hub for Indigenous Australian knowledge and culture within the university and the wider community.

As a respected Indigenous Australian scholar and leader, you will draw on your deep understanding of Indigenous Australian knowledge systems, cultural protocols, and community engagement principles to lead the development of innovative programs, research initiatives, and partnership strategies that honour and celebrate Indigenous Australian knowledges, perspectives, and contributions.

This position is open to Aboriginal Australians and Torres Strait Islander people. For this position it is a genuine occupational requirement that it be filled by an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person as permitted by and arguable under sections 25, 104 and 105 of the Queensland Anti-Discrimination Act (1991).

QUT is embarking on an exciting journey to establish a new Faculty of Indigenous Knowledges and Culture, setting a groundbreaking precedent for Australian higher education. The Faculty will expand our capacity in Indigenous Australian education, research, and engagement, welcoming students from all backgrounds into a culturally rich and inclusive learning environment.

The Faculty will offer programs from pre-award pathways through to undergraduate, postgraduate and research degrees, alone and in collaboration with other programs across the University. Providing an opportunity for all our graduates to gain a deeper understanding of Indigenous Australian knowledges and culture builds on our core philosophy of providing education relevant to the real world.

The successful applicant will demonstrate:

• A PhD or equivalent in a relevant discipline with a strong record of leadership and achievement in Indigenous Australian education and research.
• Recognised expertise in Indigenous Australian knowledge systems and scholarship, with a deep understanding of Indigenous Australian research methodologies and critical Indigenous studies.
• Demonstrated capacity for strategic leadership, innovation, and sustainable change agenda in advancing teaching, learning and research related to Indigenous Australian knowledges and culture.
• Alignment with the Indigenous Australian profile of the university, including a commitment to Indigenous Australian sovereignty, decolonisation, and critical Indigenous studies.
• Demonstrated engagement with Indigenous Australian communities, organisations, and NGOs beyond academia, showcasing a strong connection to and understanding of Indigenous Australian political landscapes, issues and priorities.
• Experience in operational leadership, preferably with experience in scaling up initiatives and programs. Experience in administrative and operational roles within an academic setting, with an understanding of how to navigate the complexities of higher education institutions.
• Ability to fulfill external facing responsibilities as an Executive Dean, including representing the Faculty to external stakeholders, partners, and funding bodies. Experience in engaging with diverse communities and organisations to advance the mission and objectives of the Faculty.
