About the Role

The successful applicant will be responsible for managing and developing staff in the environmental regulatory functions to investigate and enforce breaches of legislation and regulations in order to safeguard the health, safety and general wellbeing of the community. 

About You

You can also expect to;

  • Plan and direct the unit’s programmed inspections to achieve annual targets.
  • Coordinate regular Service Request audits to ensure application of a consistent approach in relation to customer service standards and the quality of compliance action undertaken.
  • Provide regular reports to inform unit performance and to facilitate decision making.
  • Subject to appropriate delegation/s provide accurate, consistent, and professional advice and analysis to elected members on matters relating to the unit’s responsibilities as required by the Manager or Director.
  • Monitor and review financial budgets to identify and report variations and amended forecasts to the Manager Compliance.
  • Investigate breaches relating to various statutes such as the Protection of Environment Operations Act 1997, Local Government Act 1993, and the Environmental Planning & Assessment Act 1979
  • Tertiary or other qualifications and/or equivalent experience in a relevant field.
  • Working knowledge of the legislative framework the unit is responsible to enforce.
  • Comprehensive working knowledge of relevant Local Government building, planning and environmental legislation, functions, and processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with people at all levels to establish and maintain interpersonal relationships.
  • Demonstrated ability and experience in leadership, supervision, and co-ordination of staff.
  • Extensive experience in the environmental health, building, or compliance related activities.
  • Demonstrated experience in the preparation of correspondence, reports, submissions and other documents for internal and external organisations, legal proceedings, and Court matters.
  • Ability to work in a team environment, often under tight time constraints, to achieve departmental and organizational goals.
  • Demonstrated experience in the assessment and/or determination of local government applications, certificates, enforcement and issuing of notices, orders, and infringements.
  • Demonstrated quality customer focused communication skills, including research, analysis and report writing, oral and written communications; organisation; planning and presentation.
  • Well, developed, communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in a team environment under tight time constraints to achieve unit, departmental and organizational goals.
  • Demonstrated computer literacy, spreadsheet, data entry skills and understanding of property licensing information systems.
  • Current Driver’s Licence Class C.

Salary Range: From $119,044 to $133,329 per annum plus 11% superannuation
