**THE POSITION**

We are seeking an enthusiastic, highly motivated postdoctoral scientist (f/m/d) to join the department of Medicinal Chemistry at Boehringer Ingelheim in Vienna, Austria. In this postdoctoral position, you will investigate covalent inhibitors with new warheads to target amino acids beyond cysteine.

This position is part of the global Boehringer Ingelheim Postdoc Programme, and benefits from regular scientific exchange within BI’s post doc community in Vienna. This position provides a unique opportunity to pursue an independent research project in an industrial setting and includes the possibility to supervise students. In addition, you will gain exposure to state-of-the-art medicinal chemistry at Boehringer Ingelheim and our ongoing oncology drug discovery programs.

**Tasks & responsibilities**
- Design, synthesis, and purification of covalent inhibitors
- Generate hypotheses, plan, conduct and document experiments. Make detailed observations, analyse and interpret results
- Collaborate constructively with scientists from multiple different backgrounds as project requires
- Generate creative ideas to positively impact project goals
- Full responsibility for an independent research project, being able to work independently, as well as closely with a team of highly motivated scientists
- Write manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed scientific journals and present at international conferences

**Requirements**:

- Doctoral degree (PhD) in relevant chemistry discipline, e.g. organic chemistry, medicinal chemistry, chemical biology
- Solid background and up-to-date knowledge in synthetic organic chemistry
- Evidence of scientific rigor and excellence as documented by peer-reviewed publications, experience in conceptualizing and writing publications
- Critical thinking, analytical and problem-solving skills to positively impact project goals
- Organized and self-motivated to innovate with excellent communication and presentation skills

**About Boehringer Ingelheim’s Postdoc Programme**
- The initial appointment is a 3 years fixed term contract with potential for a 1 year extension
- As a Postdoctoral Fellow you will benefit from a fully resourced and fully funded research environment with access to state-of-the-art tools, technologies, and equipment
- Embedded in the BI Discovery Research organization, you will benefit from vibrant and regular scientific exchange within BI’s post doc community, including global BI post doc retreats, and with research scientists as well as with academic collaboration partners

The minimum gross annual salary according to the collective bargaining agreement for this position is EUR 49.804,58 (full time). For the actual salary the industry benchmark as well as your qualifications and experiences are taken into consideration.
