This position is located at the United Nations Security and Safety Service (SSS-Vienna), Division for Management, United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV).
The Security and Safety Service (SSS) is comprised of the Office of the Chief and three Units: Operations, Special Operations and Operations Support.
The Operations Unit consists of the Perimeter Sub-Unit, the Fire Sub-Unit and the Tour Sub-Unit (composed of four Teams).
The Special Operations Unit consists of the Pass and ID Sub-Unit, and the Special Services Sub-Unit, which is composed of five Teams: Close Protection and Surveillance Detection, Executive Floors, Conference Security, Emergency Response and Canine Teams.
The Operations Support Unit consists of the Security Administration Sub-Unit, the Planning Team Sub-Unit, the Security Risk Management Sub-Unit, the Physical Security Sub-Unit, the Security Investigations Sub-Unit and the Training and Development Sub-Unit.
Under the overall command of the Chief of Service, the Security Lieutenant is required to perform armed security functions and reports directly to the respective Security Inspector or supervising officer in the assigned working area.
**Responsibilities**:
Within limits of delegated authority, the Security Lieutenant may be responsible for the following duties in the assigned area of work:
- Manage and organize the activities and operations of SSS-Vienna.
- Conduct line-ups and inspect officers to ensure that they are properly attired and equipped, as well as knowledgeable of daily security requirements.
- Assign security personnel to posts and security areas and maintain contact with supervisory personnel and officers.
- Directly supervise and instruct staff under supervision in the duties and responsibilities.
- Ensure that all posts are properly and effectively manned and recommend inter-unit redeployments to resolve temporary shortages.
- Prepare security plans including plans for heightened security operations, special events, VIP visits, etc.
- Ensure the proper maintenance of all relevant equipment and related records.
- Prepare and review incident reports in the assigned work area; ensure that all reported incidents and complaints are effectively addressed.
- Assume command of emergency response operations or periods of heightened security situations until properly relieved.
- Maintain UN firearms qualification standards.
- Perform all other duties as required.

Education
High school diploma or equivalent with supplementary security management or related training, is required. Must have passed the United Nations Security Officer Test (SOT).
Job - Specific Qualification
Relevant training in supplementary security management or related is required.
Work Experience
A minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in security management skills in different areas of security and safety operations is required.
