The Department of Environmental Geosciences at the University of Vienna is a highly experienced and internationally visible team. Professor Hofmann's group has a strong research focus on the analysis and behaviour of nanoscale particles and pollutant dynamics in the aquatic environment. We develop analytical techniques to detect, quantify and identify nanomaterials in complex matrices and elucidate the transformation, behaviour and fate of nanoparticles in the environment. We are currently looking for a senior scientist (postdoc) with excellent knowledge of nanomaterial behaviour and analytics in complex systems.

We offer an international working environment (English working language) with many opportunities for further career development (networking, conferences, project meetings etc.) in Vienna.

This position is limited to an employment duration of maximum 6 months (parental leave replacement) starting from 01.04.2023 until 29.09.2023.

The position is vacant for the period of absence of a member of staff.

**Extent of Employment**: 40 hours/week

Job grading in accordance with collective bargaining agreement: -48 VwGr. B1 lit. b (postdoc) with relevant work experience determining the assignment to a particular salary grade.

**Job Description**:

- Performing experiments on nanomaterial dissolution and transformation in environmental aquatic media, supervising PhD and Master students in the laboratory
- Support of the OECD related agendas of the Department
- Support of all group members in analytical questions, including instruction on analytical instruments
- Involvement in and scientific support of research projects and international collaborations of the Department
- Full involvement in the Department administration including e.g. maintenance and supervision of the labs, good laboratory practice, evaluation measures and quality assurance
- Independent teaching of courses as defined by the collective agreement

Supervision of students.

**Profile**:

- A PhD degree / Doctoral degree in Chemistry, Geosciences, Environmental Sciences or Analytical Chemistry or related discipline with a focus on nanomaterials in the environment
- High professional and personal commitment (e.g. in OECD committee work)
- Excellent command of English (German is a plus)
- Experience in laboratory organisation and guidance of chemical laboratory technicians and technical staff
- Ability to work in a team, social skills, experience in advising students (PhD, MSc, and BSc) and project management skills
- Experience working in international research projects
- Knowledge of academic processes and structures - capacity for teamwork - resilience and engagement
