The internship position is located in the Synthetic Drug Strategy team in the Laboratory and Scientific Service (LSS), Drugs, Laboratory and Scientific Services Branch (DLSSB), Division for Policy Analysis (DPA), United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, Vienna (Austria).

Through its Global Scientific and Forensic Programme, LSS aims to strengthen forensic capacity and skills worldwide by providing tailored scientific services to deliver cross-cutting solutions to address drugs, crime and terrorism. Managed by LSS, the UNODC Synthetic Drug Strategy leads a coordinated UN-wide response to the world synthetic drugs problem through collaboration with various UN agencies and programmes in order to bring together relevant expertise from across the UN system and provide a framework for comprehensive and integrated action to address the challenges posed by synthetic drugs.

The internship is expected to start in April 2023 for a period of six months under the supervision of the Programme Management Officer. The internship is UNPAID and full-time (five days per week - 40 hours) based in Vienna.

**Responsibilities**:
he intern will assist the Synthetic Drug Strategy team to plan and conduct effective communication and implementation activities. The intern will undertake duties which may include, but are not limited to:

- Assist the development of outreach and communication content for the Synthetic Drug Strategy for use on webpages, social media and other public information platforms including preparing written content and graphics.
- Assist in conceptualizing and preparing data visualization products and tools, including infographics and the development of dashboards.
- Assist with content management of the UN Toolkit on Synthetic Drugs website.
- Support the preparation and organisation of meetings, training activities and other events including preparing summaries, minutes and reports.
- Conduct research and compile information from multiple sources for use in reports, briefs, speeches, presentations, infographics etc.
- Contribute to other day-to-day operational tasks of the team and section, as appropriate.

Education

- Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent); or (c) have recently graduated with a university degree (as defined above) (OFFICIAL PROOF FROM THE UNIVERSITY IN SUPPORT OF ONE OF THE ABOVE OPTIONS HAS TO BE ATTACHED TO THE INSPIRA APPLICATION)
- Applicants must have studied international relations, law, public health, psychology, social sciences or a related field.
- Applicants must be proficient in the use of standard computer software. Ability to use data visualization tools such as Microsoft Power BI or Tableau or knowledge of graphic design tools such as Adobe Illustrator, Piktochart or Canva would be considered an advantage.
- Applicants should have a keen interest in the work of the United Nations and a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter.
- Applicants must be able to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which includes tolerance of differing opinions and views.

Work Experience

Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. Any other language SP, AR, RU, CH, would be an asset.
