The Institute for Habsburg and Balkan Studies (IHB), of the Austrian Academy of Sciences (OeAW), Austria's

leading non-university research and science institution, is a leading non-university institution for the

historical research of the Habsburg Monarchy, its successor states and the Balkan region. The Institute

conducts original research for the purpose of investigating, securing and interpreting cultural heritage. The

institute is offering

**2 POSTDOC POSITIONS (F/M/X)**
(full-time, 40h per week)

to participate in the FWF-funded project “Dynastic Continuity in an Age of Crisis? The Habsburgs in the

Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars (1792-1815)” (Principal Investigator: Dr. William D. Godsey). The

project is scheduled to run for three years (2023-2026).

**Your tasks**:
The main responsibilities will be to conduct original archival research and to publish the results in a stand
- alone monograph of 80.000-90.000 words. Additional responsibilities will include organizing events

associated with the project, including a conference and workshops.

**Your profile**:
the history of the Habsburg/Austrian monarchy as well as Revolutionary and Napoleonic Europe. A proven

track record of independent archival research is expected.

The ability to read manuscripts in several languages, including German (_Kurrentschrift_) and French, is

essential. For one position, Italian is also required. For the other position, Hungarian would be a major asset.

As the bulk of the relevant manuscript sources is located in the Austrian State Archives, residence in Vienna

is required for the duration of the project.

We offer an annual gross salary of € 60.926,60, according to the collective agreement of the Austrian Academy

of Sciences.
