The Acoustics Research Institute** **(ARI) of the Austrian Academy of Sciences (OeAW), Austria’s leading

non-university research facility, undertakes top-level research in auditory cognitive neuroscience,

psychoacoustics and experimental audiology, phonetics, bioacoustics, physical and computational

acoustics, mathematics and signal processing as well as machine learning in acoustics. The close

interaction of the working groups allows innovative research approaches through the synergistic effects

of multidisciplinary research. The ARI employs ~50 academic, technical and administrative staff. The

institute is offering a

**POSTDOC POSITION (F/M/X)**
(part-time, 20h per week)

The position is assigned to an OeAW Heritage Science project coordinated by Dr. Katharina Loose-Einfalt,

with the ARI-based co-principal investigator Dr. Günther Koliander. The projects goal is the digitization,

recognition and clustering of watermarks in the music manuscripts of Franz Schubert. The focus of this

position is to help with the recognition and clustering of the digitized watermark images.

**Responsibilities**:

- Improve algorithms for image stitching of thermographic gray-scale images
- Develop point-of-interest detectors for a reliable representation of watermarks
- Develop a point-pattern based clustering algorithm
- Communication of scientific results in scientific publications and at scientific meetings
- No teaching duties

**Requirements and qualifications**:

- PhD degree (or equivalent) in mathematics, computer science, or a related field
- Experience in image stitching or image registration methods
- Knowledge of point patterns or point processes
- Profound knowledge of written and oral English

The position is limited to six months. The starting date is flexible between October and December 2023.

We offer an annual gross salary of € 30.463,30 according to the collective agreement of the Austrian

Academy of Sciences.
